The "How much should I pay for a used N1" thread

Hi gang, I've been a lurker with an occasional comment, but nothing major.

I've had my N1 since a month after it came out, and like most of you have decided it's one of the best phones I've ever owned. I love Android and have been very pleased with the OS. So much so I want a backup/second phone for potentially nefarious purposes.

I know there have been a bunch of people abandoning the phone because Google is no longer selling it directly, however it's mixed whether retail outlets will pick it up.

Regardless I have an opportunity to purchase one for $350 USD off of CL that is supposed to be in great shape with box and all the accessories and was wondering... What exactly IS a good price to pay for the phone used?

I of course bought it for the full price, and know even some people bought it for the deal t-mo had offered, but regardless I am trying to make sure what I pay a fair price for the unit.

I would jump on one for $350. I've been scanning eBay for a couple of days. I picked up a practically new one today for $460. A lot of good condition ones are going for just about $500 or more! The last couple of days I couldn't fathom some idiot paying over $500 when you could have purchased it new right from Google for only $529. I would imagine the used prices will go up a little now because of limited availability.

Okay, now I have to ask. I'm looking at buying one and I found a few good deals locally. The only thing is I can get a samsung vibrant for the same cost.

If someone can tell me what are the pro's of a N1 over a vibrant, that'd be really helpful in making this decision.

The N1 runs plain old Android. No skins and junk to big it down. You'll also be able to get the latest updates straight from Google (and likely before any other Android phones do) without having to root your phone. You don't have to wait for the carriers to release them.

I mod/repair XBox 360's and Wii's as a hobby. Make a little extra cash here and there.

Sometimes, I take trades in place of cash, if it is worth it. You would not believe what people offer sometimes.

I did get someone that offered me to trade a Nexus One for repair of 2 360's, modding those 2 + and additional one and repairing their Wii.

Total Cost if he would have paid cash: $400

Total Cost for him because he was given the N1 at a Google Dev Conf a long time ago: $0

Total cost to me for the materials for repairs: $8

Condition of the phone, never been opened. It even had an unactivated 30 day T-Mobile SIM in the box.

I think it was worth the trade. :D

Some people dont know what they have or cant appreciate it. I got my first nexus thru craigslist about a month after initial release. The Guy sold it to me cheap and it was only a week old so he could go buy an Iphone. The next nexus came from a co worker that wanted to buy a Evo on sprint. He sold me his nexus and his wife for 200$ a piece. In all three cases i made out like a bandit. Some times you get lucky.

Well i got super lucky. The guy on craigslist had only posted it for maybe 5minutes before i called and he agreed to sell, that was around 10am buy the time we meet that night he had 75 calls but he had already agreed with me. The other case was a coworker who just didnt want to pay out of pocket to switch to sprint, i made the transition easy for him. Thats why i told the OP to jump on that deal they rarely come twice

You forgot to include the hours you spent for the repair/modding those game consoles ;)

But that seems like a pretty fair trade :D Though I think he felt he got a better deal ;) Always the best kind of trade when both parties leave feeling like winners :D

lol, now what do you do with all the N1s you have?!?! I can only think that you're a developer, as developers would want that many N1s. :p

I'm very jealous of your great luck with buying used N1s!!! I don't know anyone that even owns an N1. Though I did meet someone that actually knew I was holding a Nexus One last week :) I think he was very surprise at how geeky I was though when I did my N1 sales pitch XD

About 1 hour 30 minutes invested in time. I have gotten pretty quick with my repairs. :D

Hey guys, I'm planning to get a used and unlocked Nexus one to use on my postpaid family plan with no data and I intend to use it for a year and then move it with me to Malaysia to my new job.

Is there a way I can get it insured? (in the US)

Secondly, would it be better worth it to get a brand new Xperia X10 instead? I'm quite partial to SE. I know, blasphemy in these waters...but yeah.

My .02 the SE isnt worth it particularly since you can get a nexus. The SE didnt do to well with the reviews and cant do multitouch even if it is upgraded past android 1.6. There are a few options to insure it. Asurion in the states or square trade. Just realize that asurion has no more nexus ones so if you do file a claim they will most likely send you a samsung galaxy s as a replacement, i believe square trade will give you the value of the phone in cash

I have an Iphone 4 which Im gonna sell to maybe get an N!, first of all why SO MUCH for a ATT 3G N1 on eBay!?? WTF! $800...Maybe cause Google stopped production of the N1?

That brings me to my next question, will the N1 continue to recive updates like it was? Will it get 3.0 and above? I'd hate to get a new phone and it stops being updated....

check craigslist... they were like 400-500 used... and you can usually get a dock with it :)

yes, they will continue to get updates. Google is still offering to developers so if you want you can sign up for $25 to be a developer and buy the N1 that way.

GL :)
