That's great news... I was wondering whether I should root or not... now I just need to fighure out how to do it without brinking my phone!!!! Anyone know if simpleroot is a good method?

probably the wrong thread but..

it works, some people get stuck on it. i did it but then couldn't find where the extra folder was with the recovery... i was tired tho.

i ended up finding this thread [TUTORIAL] EVO Full Root|OTA Root|Nand Backup/Restore|Flashing|for n00b's + videos - xda-developers
its great as a few different methods in it. also post 2 has a FAQ going along with some videos. if you have done the OTA update to 1.47 then you need to do all of SECTION 5. you should read over the first 2 posts before you do anything tho. then start following the instructions where you see this
****ROOTING AFTER OTA 1.47.651.1 (Full Root)****

Keep going back to the Beautiful Widget clock for the functionality. Click on the date/temperature area and it goes straight to animated radar, clicking the clock goes to the Weather Channel for forecast, etc.

agreed, wish we could design our own skins for it tho. I link my clock to the stock clock. i use the timers at work a lot. after fresh install i had vanilla clock/stock clock not working nicely and force closing. thank god i figured out how to remove that vanilla clock.

Quick questions - definitely under the n00b category. I have been playing around with icons using bettercut but most of the time when I install them on my phone they look pixelated and not sharp? Am I not using icons with a high enough resolution? If icons come in different sizes is there a size that is best for the phone? Is there an easy way to tell if icons I download are high enough resolution? I have been using deviantart for icons and had just been downloading random icons I found that I liked but do I need to just download icon packs?

Thanks so much for the help - reading these posts has helped me get the most out of my phone

This is mine. I'm trying to keep it really minimal so I've used Launcher Pro Plus as it allows for a scrolling dock which is where I put apps that I want to access in one click. I'm still working on what should go there but there is space for 13 apps. The center app is apps organizer and allows me to view all of your app categories at once. This allows me to narrow my search down and find the app I want quite quickly. The wallpaper I found on Deviant somewhere.

I had the same problem when I 1st started customizing. I found that 80x80, or even 128x128 is a good size. and a minimum of 72 dpi. getting much higher than 72 seems poitless as you can't really see the difference. though i've known people to use 300. some of the graphic glossy stuff might look a little *bling-ier* but not much.

if you download icons that are very small or have low dpi you won't be able to improve them. getting large high DPI icons and resizing them to suit you is a good way to go if you're able.

and finally, if you get icons from members in forums who have the same phone as you do, it's a good bet they are already done up in a way to look great on your device.

I'm not really refering to newone757's post, but just wanted to say I rooted my phone via the newest simpleroot method... if your going to boot CM6 make sure you grab the google apps

go here: [Updated 7/22]: Cyanogen Mod Nightly For HTC EVO 4G Released | Android News, Reviews, Applications, Games, Phones, Devices, Tips, Hacks, Videos, Podcasts - Android Police for the latest nighly and google apps...

This is where I say, thank you newone757 for all your help last night. You didn't have to help me with my questions regarding my issues, but you did and I just wanted to publicly address that. Y O U A R E T H E M A N! sorry for the caps guys.

For those of you one the fence about rooting, I was and it turned out to be less of a pain then I thought. Actually the simpleroot method was so painless I can't beleive worry ever surronded the subject.... Just remember though your wiping your device.... back up you system.

Oh and for those of you wondering about unrooting, yes it's possible and one of our fourm members has even posted multiple links to the how to do's... good luck everyone and newone757 thanks again... I'll post some screen shots once I have my EVO set up again...

I only have one question now... if I chose to update my nightly with tonights version... will it wipe my device again?
