I stopped in to the AT&T store today to pick up a pack of screen protectors. The store here is always busy and you have to sign in to get waited on. The manager approached me and I told him all I needed was a pack of screen protectors for my captivate. He asked how I liked it. While surrounded by other customers I told him how I was so happy with it and how I can't believe that I suffered through a year and a half with an iphone. I went on to tell him how fast it was and how great the apps were. He smiled nervously and watched the group huddled around the iphone4 demo unit absorb every word I had to say. We skipped the sign in and he took me strait to the register to ring me out.

Funny how they still push that damn iphone and ignore the android.

I was surprised when I went two days ago to look at the Captivate. I had my iPhone 4 and while I was looking at the Captivate the manager and assistant manager came over and talked to me. Both had iPhones for work and android for their personal phones. The iPhones were jailbroken and the android phones were rooted. So we talked for about 20 minutes about things like mywi, pdanet, and other things that AT&T would hate. Also since I was looking at the Captivate someone stopped and asked me if I wanted a pack of screen protectors for it. He saw that the carrier on my iphone 4 said LSU instead of AT&T which lead him to ask if the iphone 4 was jailbroken. I said it wasn't yet and he says oh so that came over when you synced your backup? It was weird because I never run across people who know about rooting or jailbreaking yet there I was in the middle of a big AT&T store discussing it with AT&T managers and a customer.

Yep - I KNOW what you mean.

When I picked up my Cappy on Monday, I was waiting in line, and overheard a "consultant" (yeah right) telling a client looking at the i4 and the Cappy, that the iPhone was much faster, had more memory, etc..

I finally blew up, and corrected him on EVERY SINGLE THING.

Ya know, if you're gonna sell it, freaking read a thing or two at least...

Dude was PISSED! he even told the couple that there was a 10% restocking fee on the i4, and I corrected him on that, he insisted, so I dialed up 611 on my backflip on speaker, and proved him wrong in front of EVERYONE in the store.

Jerk - learn some shiznit before you misguide people!

Not that I'm anti-iPhone, as I even showed there was NO restocking fee, against the $35 on the Captivate! It's just, I mean, if you're going to DO A JOB, freaking do it right, or don't do it at all.

The manager, for me, has been a super guy, and super helpful, so I told him if he wanted, I could give them an intro to Android and the Captivate whenever they wanted, even before opening the store on some morning.

We'll see if he takes me up on it...

Every time I've been in any store that sells iPhones looking at other phones (I like to check out whats current) and I tell them I got rid of my iPhone 4 within 2 weeks they look at me like I just committed blasphemy. I love it.

I went into my local AT&T store on Monday, day after launch. Not a single Captivate on the sales floor. They were all hidden in the back while the iPhone had three different displays, plus two iphone accessories stands in the middle of the store. I had to wait for awhile on the list, and was almost driven crazy by it all. Of course, I'll have to go back in a week and a half to get my Captivate once my contract is eligible for upgrade. At least I'll be able to go in there with the confidence that they'll still be in stock since they don't have any reference to the product anywhere in the store.

Because I'm sure all AT&T managers are just dying to have some random customer come in and explain it rather than the people working there

Have you been a good little boy and paid your cell bills on time? Call AT&T and, depending on who's on the other end, they can push your eligibility up a few days. If you don't have any luck, call back and try another rep.

Let me tell you about my experience at the ATT store. This proves so well the love relation between Apple and ATT.

I went to check out the phone in store before I bought it and guess what. The display Captivate was not working. They stuck it in a corner turned off with a broken power plug; it was like on purpose. While the Apple stand was bright and shiny, with 3 impeccable phones and a big iPhone logo under a colorful projector.

REALLY !!! Really ATT, this is how you sell phones on the first week of release? I'm SO glad I got rid of my 3G. I was sick entire of the ATT-Apple shenanigans.

I can tell you how to piss off an AT&T customer: Have him stand in line and once he gets to the front you walk away to the little sign in book and call out the first name on the list. Oh sure, someone made an announcement earlier for people to sign in, but I figured that was for people who needed help, not someone who was returning a product and was standing in line. Since when do you need to sign up to stand in line? Luckily the guy who was called was an actual human being and saw that I was first and pointed it out. Dude has good Karma coming his way.

I will say though, in contrast, there was much Captivate love there at the store I went too. I still didn't like their attitudes though so when I did end up getting my Captivate I went to Best Buy.

My store was pretty in love with it too. Probably just being a good salesman, but the guy who sold it to me said he was taking his iPhone back for it.

Long time customer, always paid in full on time. The woman at the AT&T store tried calling to get my date moved up, but said they weren't budging on the other line. I suppose if I make the call myself, I could convince them.

best buy will price match and refund your money, sjow them the walmart website!

No they wont, trust me. Some may have within this country on launch day, but most will not match once they do some digging and find out it's a website and not Walmart.

Because of the first Walmart plug I read JUST before heading out, I spent the day trying to get everyone around to price match. Put in probably 100 miles on my bike (at least it was nice out!) and no one would. Plus, I returned my Aria and canceled my contract with AT&T because I figured I'd go home and order it on Walmart.com and just be patient. Then I started reading about people having problems and got sketched out and went back to purchase the ordinary way everyone else was, and the "instant" refund to my debit card wasn't so instant. So, I sold a gun!

Weren't expecting that were you? I did though. More cause I have bills to pay, but that cinched it for me.

the att store i went in midtown (atlantic station) in atlanta ga was nice about the captivate. they did have huge ads for the iphone 4 but their were telling me about how they were surprised about people asking about the captivate. the sales lady told me that they sold two earlier and while i was there, 4 more were sold. it was a group of us waiting for our phones and three of us were switching from iphones! Ha ha! it was like a block party! even people that were coming in to see the iphone 4 were coming over to look at the captivate!

I felt like a trouble maker because I was positive that Walmart itself was selling the phone for free, and I told the other guy waiting for the Captivate about that as we were waiting, and as I was waiting for my guy to see if they could match that I could hear the other guy ask his rep about it. I actually felt like a trouble maker in every store I went to. I whispered the price I was trying to match because everywhere I went people were paying for Captivates and I didn't want to start a stampede. In the end I just looked like a dope cause Walmart sucks and doesn't pay attention to their partnerships.

I walked into best buy showed them my receipt and they looked it up on the computer. Two minutes later got $100 put back on my debit card.
I am sorry if you are apprehensive about this phone but in the end I have a great phone for $99.

When I went into an AT&T corporate store last Sunday the employee there (not sure if he was the manager) told my iPhone-loving friend that he preferred the Captivate over the iPhone 4. Granted, about 1/5th of the store was set up with iPhone kiosks, booths, and ads, while the Captivate was just on the demo lineup and way in the back... but this guy at least was a kindred spirit and was upfront about it.

Disgusting how much influence Apple has on AT&T.

Some of you guys need to chill with the iPhone/AT&T hate. Yeah the Captivate got a shitty deal, but for ****s sake guys, the iPhone is the flagship phone of AT&T. They are going to hype it up, and sell as many as they can because they make a ton of money off them. The same way Verizon hypes the Droid X and didn't say anything about the Fascinate. It's just marketing, not the end of the world. As for the guy correcting the salesperson, way to make yourself look like a prick.

LOL - Sounds like Fry's to me. My girlfriend has been window shopping for a laptop, so naturally, she would stand there and launch Solataire *facepalm*. I always overhear the Fry's salesguy spewing nonsensical bull to an older couple on how the $2000 gaming laptop would be more beneficial than the $500 laptop. Yeah, I can really see this cute retired couple ripping it up in an FPS.

I find the same thing happening at AT&T stores. Salespeople and consultants "improving". I just say get out of my hair and go sell a used car.

I've gotten customer service to let me upgrade 6 months early. I never wait the full two years. My captivate should be on my doorstep by 3:00 today and I was not going to be eligible for an upgrade til December. I've been a customer since 1997 (back when it was PacBell Celular - before it became cingular and was then purchased by AT&T) so maybe that has something to do with it.

I agree. Maybe they didn't make a big deal about this phone because they knew it had a bunch of issues.
