Speakerphone on Nexus One. Is it OK? On the Desire it's CRAP !

Hi All,

The speakerphone on the HTC Desire is CRAP !!!

Thinking about switching to the Nexus One, BUT since it is also made by HTC I wonder if it will be any better.

Please, what are your experiences with the speakerphone on the Nexus?

Sucks for music. Meh for phone calls. Its most likely the same hardware. Is the speaker the deal maker/breaker for you?

im not big fan of the speaker phone. the sound quality isnt the best and it doesnt get very loud.

im sure it would be fine in a quiet office environment, but not so great with any considerable amount of noise around.

+1 They went cheap on the speaker in the Nexus One, I am guessing it is the same for the Desire. Also went cheap on the touchscreen sensor (ClearPad 2000), but that is a story for another day. Still a great phone

My Nexus one is on order (waiting on Vodafone UK...), but I was hoping it could be used as a secondary SatNav, does the speaker ruin that aspect of the phone?

I've never had issues with the turn by turn navigation. The actual text-to-speech voice isn't that great since it's not recorded by a human, but it's understandable. I'm able to use my phone with the screen off and just listen to the directions with no trouble. I also have a TomTom, but that is more of a hassle to find a destination.

Yes, I have no trouble with it for things like this. But it is an awful speaker when compared to anything else. But it doesn't ruin things like this.

Yes. Speaker sucks. Can't even use it as a speakerphone cause it sounds too garbled.

I think whats worst is that it makes my ringtones sound like crap I almost want to leave it on vibrate.

I need to like.. rip apart my old iphone3g and Frankenstein the speaker onto the nexus or something

The speaker phone on the N1 is nothing to write home about. It's okay, but definitely not a very good one. From what I've noticed Nokia phones are very good for speaker phones (I've seen friends use them in cars), the N1 is... meh.

I think music playback isn't that bad, but phone calls are terrible.
