How-TO Root the
HTC Slide
HTC Aria + See this Link > How to root the HTC Aria - xda-developers
&
Nexus One
Works With ALL 2.1 HTC PHONE"S with 2e Recovery!
Must be able to See the Device From the ADB in recovery for it to work!

If at anytime You have Trouble or Can't get my Method to work, Please see wesgarner's [Root] SimpleRoot v1.3 (Linux/Windows)
Link > [Root] SimpleRoot v1.3 (Linux/Windows) - xda-developers
Just use my Update.zip if you just want root only

Download This Package > Root.zip

*EDITED* 6/29/2010 Update Now Contains Su & Superuser.apk. Permission Fixed on SU / Sh as well :)
-Contains Dusty51 script for Partitioning the a2sd & Swap
-fstab install so swap will work
-Default partition table's are:
-Linux Swap @ 32mb
-ext2 a2sd partition @ 512mb
-Fat32 Partition is based on the size after the 2 above

How-to Use:
Once You load the Recovery via update.zip, Unplug & Plug the USB to make sure the Device is Seen..
- Open Command Prompt from Computer
- Adb shell
- sdparted
- Next Follow the Command, y = Y to confirm..

Note: Backup your SDCARD first, only thing should be on it is the update.zip then Follow the above to Format for a2sd support!

I've got root now and just wanted to repeat what made the difference for me (also posted pages back):

when you're ready to run recovery in the bootloader be sure to unplug the USB from your phone until 'HBOOT' not 'HBOOT USB PLUG' displays.

So basically you unplug the phone until 'HBOOT' appears, have 'RECOVERY' highlighted, and plug the phone in a moment before you select 'RECOVERY'.

The moment I did that I had 'recovery' displaying in my loop.

Continue with the directions...

How-TO Root the Slide

First!! - Go to Settings > Application > Development and turn on USB Debugging. This should save you headaches.

I root and get everything, the Clockwork Recovery screen, but everytime I reboot the phone and if I go into Recovery, it defaults back to the standard Android Recovery. Any ideas? Is the root not holding? I also noticed when I tried to remove stock apps now that I am rooted, and I delete the apk and cache file for like Visual Voicemail, it comes back after a reboot. Is that because the root isn't holding?

A. Once Rooted Flash the ENG build

B. You can not Reflash the Recovery

C. ClockworkMod Recovery is a Fake Flash and must be saved as update.zip

D. You can only Remove App from Recovery, once you mount the system in CWM Recovery

E. You Must Do All the Above, To Do all above!

I am not as savvy on the Android, as I just moved here from Windows Mobile where I unlocked phones and dealt with custom ROM's. So, isn't it 2 different steps, in that you can root your phone and leave the same factory OS (mine is T-Mobile), and then there is loading a custom ROM which requires rooting the phone first?

I guess I just don't fully understand your instructions. I have searched several forums but can't find the answer to what I thought my first question was, which I guess may have been the problem in that my question is wrong.

So can you please elaborate on your instructions?

Alright...this is a question I have some thoughts on myself but:

What do you consider to be the top benefits of rooting the MyTouch Slide?

I'm thinking hard about it but frankly the phone works well for me as is...except I'm beginning to get "Low on space" warnings I don't appreciate.

Rooting is good for lots of reasons, and in your case would be good for apps2sd, and removing bloatware. Plus it gives you the freedom to try out custom roms, like one of the froyo roms, since we probably won't get a legit taste of that for some time on this phone.

It says HTC Slide does this guide work for the HTC MyTouch Slide?

The HTC slide and Mytouch Slide are the same phone. ;)

i know this question was asked up above, but i still didn't find (or can't understand) the answer.

How can i root the slide without losing the stock OS?

thanks

Using the above method, you only gain root access and maintain your stock ROM.

Rooting is not for dummies so no walkthrough...DO NOT TRY TO ROOT WHEN YOU DON'T TRUELY KNOW WHAT IT MEANS AND WHAT IT DOES.

This is obviously well above your skill set and knowledge base if you don't even know what sdk is. Do more research. Rooting is not for casual users that don't even know the programs and tools to use or the terms used! Plus this method doesn't work with the new update anyway.

Well thanks. your so very nice. all i did was ask. No need for the angry lecture. Your obviously not one to go to. =[

ROTFLMAO! not angry at all man (or girl, don't know)...maybe your just being too sensitive! i'm trying to help you from wasting your time and possibly bricking your device. go to xda and ask that question...see how far you get. do your homework!

ok...ok. what i recommend you do is go here first to learn about android sdk:

http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html

now go here to learn how to root the slide with any software version including the new update:

[How-To] Root the Slide with any sw verision and flash cust rom - xda-developers

on the xda forum read the entire thread linked above (or at least most of it) as it will likely answer questions you have. Also take a look at some of the other threads in the development section at XDA pertaining to root, but the link i provided is the most up to date.
