these are probably dumb/easy questions, so sorry in advance. im coming off a razr2, so this is the first smartphone ive ever had, let alone toyed with

1. im curious as to what others are using for text messaging. the one that came on my phone is just very plain and boring. my dad got the droid x last week, and he has like colored voice bubbles that seperate on each side to show whos talking to who. looked pretty cool

2. what program can i use for a flashlight? i tried droidlight, and it didnt work.

3. i put the bookmark widget on one of the home pages, but its just got preset bookmarks. how can i change this to put 4-6 websites of my choice (my bank, few forums, etc) that i frequent?

4. is there a way to get rid of the "pull down bar to unlock screen"? i set the swipe/password type thing, so when i turn the phone back up, i have to pull down, then swipe my password/code thing. id like to only have the latter.

im sure i'll have more questions, so i'll just keep them in this thread so i dont clutter up your forums

thanks!

1. Handcent
2. Flashlight is good if you want to use the brightness of your screen, if you want to use your led's, try Incredible LED flashlight.
3. I'm not sure. :/
4. Try widgetlocker lockscree(paid), I can't think of a free 1 right now.

I'm still figuring things out too... Look in the market for Handcent sms, it works like what your dad has for texting. Also, to bookmark your pages, go to the page, then hit the menu key at bottom of your phone...you'll see a link to add a bookmark, click that option & that page is in your bookmarks. Go to the app market & search for Bookmark Sort and Backup. This app will let you arrange your bookmarks however you want.

As far as the flashlight goes, I just use one from the app market. There is another that is supposed to be good, but your phone has to be rooted to install it.

thanks for the replies. checked out handcent, and saw that "chompsms" seemed to have better reviews. exactly what i was looking for. much better than what i had

will work on others when i get home

glad my dad showed me about the task killer. so much stuff kept running after i was done using it, it took my battery down to 30% over like 4 hours at work today. since he showed me that, with mild usage its only down like 13% in about 4 hours

so, ive been using the phone, and when my screen is locked, and i push the button on top to turn it on, it still gives me the notice of a text message coming in. its doing it via the "messages" app that came on the phone, and while i have already read/responded via chomps, the notification of a text still shows there.

how can i get that to not show up, or even uninstall the messages app that came with the phone and only use chomps?

thanks!
