Droid Eris to Moto Droid or vice versa?

I have a Droid Eris and I'm considering going to the Moto Droid. I'm trying to figure out how many other people have done it and what their experiences were.

Also, I'm making a poll for shits and giggles lol

I am going to do exactly what you say, but havn't yet. Probably next week. My brother got a Droid, so I've been able to mess with it...

1) The screen is bigger (and amazing with the higher resolution). That is not to say the Eris screen isn't great...It is! It's just smaller, with lower res, and I am a "bigger is better" type...lol

2) The Processor is faster. On my brothers phone things are noticeably faster. By quite a bit actually. I noticed this first when we where downloading an app at approx. the same time (not done scientifically, admitted). His app was done downloading AND installed before mine was done downloading and I started first! We where both using WIFI at my house (Fios 25/25 connection, so no bottleneck there)...

The thing I will miss the most is Sense UI...I really like it, but Android is so customizable with apps, that I should be able to get close...

I live in the Google Cloud for everything, so I couldn't wait for Droid to come out. I was there in line on Nov 6th and after 15 minutes with each...I walked out with the Eris, but for the wrong reasons.

The Eris was much better looking, more pocketable, etc. but after using it awhile and the display being smaller, the processor way slower...I returned it and then bought the Droid. (NOTE: don't ever "exchange" a phone at Verizon for a different one because you can only do that once in a 30-day period....meaning you're then stuck with the second phone). You can return, then buy another the next day forever and you're fine...till you find the one you really like.

OK...got the Droid...it was everything I wanted (except I still think it looks like crap) but I got over that. I liked everything about it but I had some issues with mine simply because I use a Mac and not a PC, so if you use a PC this won't bother you. Transferring media files to my SD card kept hanging up and it turns out it's a known issue (to everyone except Verizon, who lives only in a PC world). If you transfer a playlist over 200 songs it stops after 75% of the transfer. This a random problem and doesn't happen to everyone.

Bottom line...returned the Droid also and I'm back to my BlackBerry and waiting for whatever the next Android 2.0 device will be with Big Red. Another problem with the Eris is the aging OS...1.6 isn't even close to what 2.0 is...this is really a big issue.

I just returned my Eris (got it on the 7th) yesterday because I simply found it too slow.

I did not get the Droid. I don't want or need a physical keyboard and I want to wait a bit to see if something better comes soon. I have a feeling that I'm going to break down and get a Droid, though. I miss not having a smartphone.

I think the Eris is perfect for someone using it mainly for calls, email and text. I was using it mostly for web browsing and email and I found it far too slow.

I got the ERIS first and really LOVED the form factor, the feel of the phone and to be honest didnt find the OS that slow at all. I mean if your app opens a half a tick slower would it really make a huge difference.. probably not. But the one thing that i could not live with was the battery life. Within the first 15 mins of light usage the ERIS was down 25% and it just went down hill from that. If the ERIS had better battery life I would have not gotten the moto droid.

So here's where I stand now.

I went back to the verizon store and started playing with the droid extensively. It most certainly didn't seem flimsy to me, nor did it seem bulky. Its a little rough around the edges but whatever.

I didn't exchange for it yet. I was really turned off by a few things.

The fact that it doesn't even have Flash Lite made some webpages look really stupid (including my own). Although I did hear that full flash is coming out early 2010 I'm not necessarily swayed by the stuff I'll lose in the mean time. Also the Sense UI is great for most things. HTC has some nice stuff with the eries like the clock and their mail program (which pretty much does everything I could ever ask it to do).

So the Eris might be slightly slower, but it has more stuff and looks a hell of a lot better. In fact the trackball is superb. I much rather the trackball to the d-pad.

And the biggest peve I had with the moto droid is the lack of physical buttons on the face (ie no call or end call buttons). The keypad blows but I could probably get used to it.

IDK... I may just keep the damn eris and sell it when the Passion comes out... if it ever comes out lol
