What features do you want on the Evo 2?

Dedicated camera button?

God, man, are you insane?

Studies have shown that most people flinch when taking a picture, causing blur, and along with that flinch, their eyelids flutter - it's physiologically inescapable.

Also, its a well-known fact that every digital camera user has a moment of increased heartrate and a momentary inrush into their circulatory system of unbalanced hormornes that are toxic to the cardiovascular system a result of the cognitive dissonance created by not knowing if you captured the precious moment or if you were yet again the victim of digital shutter delay.

And you want a physical button just always hanging out there, fully dedicated to the camera, to constantly stir up that angst???

Now, the solution - to flinching, to not even wanting to see if you've missed the moment - is at hand. It begins with this exciting new software as a core:

http://androidforums.com/htc-evo-4g/110896-air-gestures-eyesight-coming.html

On top of that, you'll use my new app: Blink to Click for the BEVO Z5G (free in the Market).

That's right. Not only will my camera app provide you with full codec control, your digital photography steps up its game - you look at the big screen to frame your composition of what the rear facing camera is seeing, then look exactly at the spot in the frame that you want to capture - this is where the first front facing camera comes in - my software triangulates those coordinates and instantly spot-meters at that point and focuses to that point.

Now, a simple closing of both eyes is then sensed as your shutter release.

People get very steady in that instant their eyes close - inescapable physiology again - and plus that, you won't see that instant yourself, so you'll never worry again that the digital delay robbed you of anything.

And soccer moms everywhere are going to love the configurable options for facial recognition of the expressions for Hurry up - that way! or even You can do it THIS TIME, honey, I know you can! or even that quiet, judgmental Is that the best you can do? to trigger videocamera options as well as recording.

And you want to inflict a physical button on people???

Say - are you some kind of spy for Motorola or what?

I'm taking credit for the L kickstand having suggested it months ago :D

if I got a phone called a BEVO, I'd have to wash out the label to read what it should say... 13-0. I hate longhorns ;) /overly aggie

You can have 13-0. Horns could lay down and take a nap for the next 20 games or so vs Aggie and still lead the series. :D

Oh, and to keep on topic, hot-swappable, side-loading batteries ftw.

Fight! Fight! I'm going to have go back and see which of us invented it first. I think I did.

And that's really ok, everyone, don't worry, this is SUPPOSED to happen.

After all - no good, significant smartphone ever hits the market without a patent war!

OK, now before any of you UT types speak up, I'm going to say right here and now that I don't want any catcalls that Aggies should wait for the CEVO because it reflects their GPAs. In fact, I don't want any mention of that whatsoever. I won't stand for it. The very idea that someone should wait for the CEVO because they didn't score a BEVO is just brand-bashing! And I won't stand for it! Do you hear me?!?! So, please, let's not have one single joke whatsoever about the CEVO and Aggies.

Man - I am just totally serious about this.

And SHAME! on whomever thought that up in the first place!

(Dood - srsly - it says New Mexico, USA right below my face. Did you think you could start a Texas school war and NOT get trolled by me? You're just lucky I didn't start anything or say anything to stir up the Hook-Ems and you Aggies - yessir, you're totally lucky I'm not that kinda guy because I'd have probably thought of something irresistible in a meme.)

Still waiting on people to make the connection to the D revision... guess I'll have to fill that one in for you:

Well - you asked for it...

LOL! I enjoyed that, but you did actually bring up another spec that I would LOVE to see in my phone's camera. Rapid Repeat Shutter Speed!

I hate the size of my Nikon D40, but I LOVE how fast I can click photos. No matter what I am shooting I always focus and then fire off 3 or 4 rapid shots. So that I can drastically increase my chances of avoiding blinks or blurs or other millisecond mistakes. So yeah, even if it couldn't increase the picture speed, I would settle for a "burst" mode.

Wow.

That's a challenge.

OK...

How 'bout instead if Blick To Clink simply includes a configurable 1-to-5 second video mode with an instant pop-up movie editor that lets you step through frames and pull out fave shots from the 30 fps stream and lets you save the snaps you want with a double click on any given frame?

hmm... 30fps at 1-to-5secs = 30-to-150 frames to sort through. I think you are on the right track with utilizing the video software though...

Maybe if it was set to run for 2 secs and capture each 15th frame so that it would essentially create a burst of 4 that hit every half second. Then it pops up all four on the screen in a grid style through which you can pinch to zoom on each and then double tap to choose the one that you like ;) I think we are on to something!

There you go - an fps entry widget and a time-to-run entry widget.

You could even go the other way - set up for .005 fps, say, for four hours - and have a little time-lapse photo movie, automagically.

How you like them apples?

(PS - Sure, 30 fps is a lot of frames - but who never wanted a fast motor drive on their 35? ;))

IDEA!!!

What if it had an attachable keyboard?

I know it couldn't be a slideout on the back or anything... but what if...

The phone came with a 2-3mm thick rubberized plastic keyboard mat that could be overlayed on the bottom screen when the phone is flipped open "bookstyle"? It would have small suction cups on the bottom side (or clips around the edges) to hold it in place. Each key would be designed with a little 'give' so that it would press in like a normal physical keyboard, and under each key would be a capacitive contact point. These contact points would then work with the screen underneath the keyboard to type... It essentially turns the regular screen keyboard into a physical keyboard.

The keys on the keyboard mat could have translucent letters to allow the light from the screen to pass through... or they could be completely clear and the keyboard letters could just be on the screen and visible through the keyboard (not a big fan of the second option though).

Of course, the phone's hinges would have to be structured in a way that they would be expandable to allow the phone to close while the keyboard was still attached/sandwiched in the middle.

And last but not least... I have no idea how to accomplish this with a rear-camera and a kickstand... but what if there were a way to store this removable keyboard mat under the battery cover? That way you would always have it with you if you wanted to use it... but more importantly, those people that use it regularly would always have an easy place to stash it when they wanted to use the book-style for strictly browsing purposes.

This would satisfy everyone that would want a phone with OR without a physical keyboard.:D BOOM! Market Cornered!;)

Edit: a little change in the design... maybe if the phone's width were permanently increased by 2-3mm, and the lower book-style screen's edge was beveled/sunken in an ergonomical way, a keyboard mat could sit down inside it and have an easier time securing. It would also eliminate the need to expanding hinges.

HTC hasn't really been much on a second version of a phone, so the successor probably wont be the Evo2. However, I would think by next spring rumors of the replacement will be in full swing. Smartphones have a pretty short lifespan, when it comes to being marketable. What's hot today, isn't so much so a few months later.

A prime example, although not a HTC phone, is the Droid. The Droid 2 is its replacement around 9 months after its introduction.
