app2sd question

I understand one of the benefit of rooting is to be able to use the app2sd application.

With this one can move downloaded app to the sd card, otherwise these apps take up place in the phone's internal file system.

So what is the cost of having the apps on the SD card? Is there any noticable time of loading/startup?

Right now my phone's storage space is at 119 Mb. At what point should I start worrying that I am running low?

What is the memory/storage layout of Eris?
In analogy, computers have HD-for permament storage and pageing, RAM (perishable)-for running the system and programs and ROM (non-perishable) which hold among other things programs needed for booting [the latter has a different meaning in computers than in the Android system...]

To be honest, I don't notice any latency when loading applications that are stored on my SD card. In fact the application details seem to load faster in the Application Manager as well. That part could be my imagination, or the fact that my Eris is rooted, and over-clocked.

that last line hit the nail on the head.......... its really hard to say whether or not a2sd is slower or faster than not having it...... and if there is a difference its most likely so subtle that you could never tell.......

couple this with now being overclocked and its is impossible to know.......even if a2sd is slower..... Im still a LOT faster than stock because Im overclocked........ and it shows in how the phone performs

xx_bishop_xx, are you on the original OTA 2.1 or installed a different rom after rooting?

I'm running WhiteWidow 4.6. I really like it so far, the only complaint I would have is this nagging issue with Astro. I understand the old version has expired; I've uninstalled the previous version and installed the new; each time I reboot I receive the "This version is expired...." message. I haven't researched that too much yet.

Yeah, I have the same issue. It would be nice if Andrizoid came out with a patch that got rid of Astro permanently. Its really annoying that your stuck with the expired version, so you can't delete or upgrade it.

Thanks buddy, I posted this in the WhiteWidow thread as well. Maybe Andrizoid will take notice. Are you using the "EStrongs File Manager" by any chance? It's really quite good, I just have a soft spot for Astro.

If you have the newest version of LauncherPro, you can hide Astro from your app drawer until Andrizoid fixes it.

No, I'm not. I tend to always use Root Explorer for file management.
