I am considering taking back my EVO ...

Well, I am not unhappy with my phone, I personally like the phone, but my 30 days is about to be up and I always get antsy about this time. I am, for some reason, drawn to the Galaxy S phones and the Tmobile Vibrant is available now. If it had an LED flash, I would be all over it like fat chicks on cake. I would also wait for the Epic, but there is no release date and I have asked multiple Sprint/RadioShack/BB employees and they say anything from soon - November.

Verizon, IMHO, is just too expensive monthly and their best phone is so sold out everywhere. I hate AT&T so they are not an option.

Has anyone used a Vibrant and the EVO? Anyone have an opinion?

Thanks

If you don't hate the phone why bring it back? If you want an epic so bad then bring it back and wait. Is a physical keyboard that important to you cause thats really going to be the only difference. If verizon and att are out then I would stick with the EVO and sprint or wait for the epic and sprint. T-mobile doesn't exactly have great coverage.

The Epic 4g will be out in the next month or so

Well that depends on where you are. I've used Tmob all over Kansas, Missouri,
Tennessee, and Florida and never had an issue.

I don't think their will be a "perfect" solution for anyone. If it's not the phone, it's the carrier... I tried the Evo and gave up after 3 swap outs from the pc of $@#t falling apart. While I enjoyed Sprints cost for plans and the Hotspot feature, I didn't care for any of their phones but the Evo. I ended up back with my old iPhone until something better shows up at Sprint. I'll never buy another HTC product after the fiasco I dealt with over the past 6 weeks, but hope Samsung, Motorola or another company will bring a quality smartphone to Sprint. Now I just go jailbreak my iPhone and deal with ATT's BS.

Thanks for your replies. I should explain in more detail. The EVo has done nothing wrong, there are just a few things the vibrant offers that I am more interested in. The screen is sick, the 16gb of internal storage + sd card slot, the phone is super light( some thing it has a cheap feel, I think it is just light weight). I think the Samsung UI looks cool, I am kind of bored of the HTC Sense, almost seems vanilla. I do not honestly care for the camera on the EVO. The way it sticks out seems odd and I know I will be losing 3mp when going to the Vibrant, but as long as I stay under 16x24 size prints the quality is identical. I know there is no flash, but I do not go to clubs or party at night. I am more interested in the panoramic settings of the camera & the ability to really use my phone as a camera.

Again, nothing is wrong with my EVO. I just want to make sure before I am locked in to a 2 year contract that I am getting what I want, not just what is the hottest phone.

Thanks again,

The Epic and the Vibrant have different specs.

The Epic has a front facing camera and LED flash. But while the Vibrant has 16 gb of ROM, the Epic just has 1GB like the Evo.

Yeah, true they have differences, but they're both Galaxy-class and so should have basically a lot of similarities.

As far as that 16 GB ROM - I'll believe it when I see it. I'm trying to imagine Samsung one-offing that feature when by 2.2, you can store your apps on the SD card and not worry about 1 GB.

I could be wrong - but color me VERY skeptical on that one.

You can definitely get a good idea of how the Epic will perform by playing with the Vibrant, but the OP was mixing and matching features from one phone and applying them to the other.

I wasn't clear if you doubt that the Epic will only have 1GB ROM or if you doubt the Vibrant has 16GB ROM. Because it most definitely has 16GB. Even the Droid X has 8GB of ROM.

I can totally sympathise with this cycle...on July 1st, I picked up a Samsung Moment as a replacement for my old Blackberry Curve 8330. Its craptastic battery life completely turned me off from Samsung devices forever, honestly. I mean, it was BAD.

So, I took it back and got a Blackberry Curve 8530, which I very much liked...speedy lil device, did my email and messaging perfectly, nice physical keyboard. And it ran the Kindle app, which I did need for mobile amusement...

...but then my July 4th holiday pay popped into my back account, and bestbuy.com showed they had white EVOs in stock. Argh argh argh...

So, I took the perfectly fine and content Blackberry back to Walmart, moseyed to Best Buy, and found they had both black AND white EVOs in stock. So, with a song in my heart, I walked out with my Big Black Slab of Awesome. And since I'm avoiding any further Samsung phones after the Moment, the Galaxy or whatever has absolutely zero appeal for me except in the hopes that it pulls more people towards the Android platform.

So...to sum up, I know VERY well the urge to take back a phone before the 30 days is up. But...really, why take back the EVO? Its excellent. Sure, the camera sticks out a bit, but a decent silicone case like the Amzer that's on its way to me from Amazon will fix that right up. Battery life is a bit wonky? Just means you have to be intelligent about how you use the phone. And really...there's no better phone on Sprint right now, nor will there be for months.

*shrug* Take the EVO back if you truly feel the urge. But if you're happy with it...why bother? Enjoy the awesome. Either way, you have a great phone with incredible power and features. But if the EVO works for you right now, why switch? :)

I'll shut up now.

Here's a side by side video of a Galaxy phone and the Evo that EarlyMon dug up for another thread (thanks Mon!)

YouTube - HTC EVO 4G vs Samsung Galaxy S Hardware

What really struck me is the disparity in screen size -- .3" may not seem like much, but the Evo is markedly bigger. I'd really need a lot of prodding to drop that real estate. If the Epic doesn't totally blow the Evo away (and the Vibrant really isn't), then it looks like I'm sticking with the Evo.

Well, I own both, and on paper the Vibrant should be as fast or faster, but it just isn't. The screen is amazing but not enough to give up my Evo, and there are just too many hiccups in the Vibrant at this time to make it as smooth an experience as the hype would have you believe. Nice phone but for overall performance, Evo wins! JMO.
