Title says it. I want to get the 200mb plan but fear going over the limit. I will only browse a few site like sportscenter. Wont be updating status' cause i dont have a facebook. Was wondering if i just do everything that consumes major data at home, which has wifi i should be good right?

On a second note how much data does using GPS every once in awhile?

Thanks for the help. I am going to hopefully get this phone on August 22.

I would go with the 2GB just to be on the safe side. Its only $10 more. I always thought that I didn't use that much data. Well I checked my data one month and just going to websites and a few other things I used about 500 megs in one month. Now I am still on the unlimited plan so its not big deal. But if you go over 200 megs it will cost you alot more than $10 :)

Hell, if i go with the 2gb plan i might as well just get the iPhone 4.
Actually, Android (and therefore the Captivate) uses every bit as much data as iOS, and perhaps more so due to the continuous (if so set) feeds of the widgets and certain applications. Android is very cloud-oriented and becoming more so every day, and it wouldn't surprise me if iPhone users were found to consume less data than Android users. Plus with Android you have a choice over how much data you enable the device to use...

Get the 2GB plan, definitely. AT&T purposely has a bunch of useless junk running constantly in the background sucking down data for the sole purpose of running up your monthly bill. Even with no widgets on or anything like that, the AT&T crapware could suck down 2-5MB per day just doing nothing. And of course unless you root the phone (which I haven't done) you can't disable their devious money making scheme.

The AT&T stuff in the background isn't even doing anything except remaining in memory for quick launching. The reason AT&T hotspot runs in the background so it can auto-connect you to their hotspots when you have WiFi on and attempt to connect. Everything isn't a conspiracy.

I dont know, if your frugal, 200mb is just fine, as long as you have wifi at home. transfer everything like music and movies over usb, and use wifi as much as possible. I just barely went over my 200 mb.

And no, it wont cost exhorbinent amount if you go over. If you do, they charge you another 15 bucks for 200 mb more. and they send you texts that warn you when you get close to going over.

Edit: I just barely went over, and thats including swapping phones in the middel, so I had 2 new phones to play with. once the awe factor eases, I will most likely be using less.

I think the biggest question is how much you can stay on a wifi network verses 3g (or Edge). Only the 3G/Edge count toward useage, so if you can stay on a wifi network the majority of the time, you should be fine with 200M. My currently BB doesn't have wifi and I have been averaging about 280M/month. I believe after I get my Streak, I should be able to easily stay below 200M as I have a wifi network at home and work.

I'm on the 200mb plan and only use data for twitter/facebook and the occasional webpage or photo while I'm at or going to/from work. wifi for everything else. Also remember to go to "Accounts and sync" to turn off background data. Also, wifi turns itself off after the phn goes to sleep. Does anybody know how to disable that?

According to myWireless I've used 9.58mb in 4 days of curious use. I should be ok.

Hey Baldilocks... I see your posts over @ Howard Forums.
