Accessories Best Incredible [Full] Screen Protector

hi, just reporting on my recent switch from the zagg to the boxwave clear tough crystal, on grandmasterb's recommendation. what a difference! i thought the zagg was too grabby, and i didn't like the "orange peel" look (perfect way to describe it, btw). also, the edges kept creeping up on me, and there was a spot on the side that just would not adhere. when i put on my case (verizon silicone case) the corners just gave up altogether. the boxwave is fabulous. i used compressed gas to get rid of any bits of lint after i'd wiped it down (i will never install a screen protector again without it), so it's absolutely free of any lint. and it sticks very well. put my case on, and i just had to push slightly down on two corners for it to look perfect again. and only slightly. it's absolutely transparent, and it feels like glass, no stickiness at all. it's not absolutely fingerprint proof, but it's pretty resistant. i love the way it feels when touch scrolling. it's just a really, really nice product.

i do hope it gives me good scratch protection. i felt like the zagg was pretty indestructible, at least the areas where i got it to adhere, but i have no idea what the claims are on this one. the packaging doesn't exactly seem to offer scratch protection as a priority ("protects touchscreen from scratches" is listed last in the "features" list, and it's sort of a weak statement). gmb, how is it holding up for you? anyone else? i like it a lot, i just hope it does me proud.

Wraspol Ultra is hands down the best screen protector that I have ever tried. And I've almost tried all of them over the past several years. Here is why:

  • Rubber NOT plastic, which means scratch protection.
  • Only rubber based screen protector that I know of that doesn't require a wet application.
  • Virtually zero orange peel effect. The best I've seen for a rubber based protector.
  • Very clear to the point that you can't even tell it's on.

Why it's better than Zagg? No orange peel effect and dry application process. Why it's better than Steinheil? It's not plastic which means it won't scratch like a Steinheil will over time. Which means you won't have to keep putting new protectors on.

The downside is that it is definitely pricey. But in this case, you get what you pay for, and coupon codes can be found with some digging.

*EDIT* Please note that I am referring to Wrapsol Ultra and not just the regular Wrapsol. There is a difference and it's noticeable. If you are going Wrapsol, get the Ultra.

They have always held up well for me. They can and will scratch but not nearly as easily as some of the "cheaper" protectors.

I finally fumbled mine trying to holster it and launched it across the kitchen counter, onto a bar stool and came crashing to the kitchen floor. As a result it does have a few fine scratches on the lower right hand corner. Considering the launching sequence, I was pretty impressed with the protection it offered.

So these will still scratch but I think the difference is day to day scratching from cleaning and holstering etc that the super cheap protectors get , the Boxwave resists. Rubber ones won't scratch but then you have to deal with the drag and resulting of the rubbery feel.

Ultimately my goal is to have the brightest most vivid screen possible and be able to pull of an throw away the protector revealing a pristine screen when I sell the device in 6-8 months. Boxwave has always done this well while resisting most daily scratches at the same time.

Couple of comments...

So far I have tried the Verizon protector, Steinheil Anti Fingerprint and Steinheil Crystal clear.

  • Verizon was the clearest, but did not cover the whole screen. It was also very tacky.
  • Steinheil Anti Fingerprint, felt great but made the screen very soft and simply destroyed the clarity of the screen. I had to remove it within hours.
  • Steinheil Crystal clear, has acceptable clarity but not great, and is still tacky when clean. After some use it is ok, but still not as smooth as id like.
I'm interested in trying the Zagg or Boxwave, and while I do not like the orange peal I am wondering if it does help with the over all feel and use of the device. I suspect that the peal can only be seen at a angle and that under normal use its not a visual problem.

Thoughts?

If your interested in optical clarity or avoiding tackiness then the Zagg is really going to piss you off. While you can only see the orange peel in certain conditions the effect actually comes from thickness variations in the material and as a result you can see slight distortions in clarity from it. Some people may not mind it but from what you have already said you will be noticing it.

Also the military grade protectors like Zagg come across as rubbery and suffer from drag. While this will get better with use, as the oils from your face begin to lubricate the screen, it also causes a rainbowing effect in the representation of colors.

I cannot say enough positive about the Boxwave Crystal Clear and its 99% optical clarity.

+1

basically, what he said. entirely. i had the zagg, but the boxwave crystal is much, much better. no curling, no drag, no funky pebbling. and again, if you get it, i cannot recommend more the idea of using compressed air to clean your screen off just before you put it on. i'm so glad i did that, there are no dust particles under mine at all. love it.

Looks like you get it here:
Incredible Screen Protector / HTC Incredible Screen Protector / Incredible Invisible Screen Cover / HTC Incredible Screen Cover / Incredible Screen Film - ClearTouch Crystal

I just put on my second Phantom Skinz. First STILL had moisture from 48 hours ago, not even a little improvement from the time I put it on.

Since I got two I am going to give it another shot. If it's not decent looking by Monday morning, I will be going with something else. Either the Boxwave or the Steinheil CC.

Not one person here mentioned the Seidio Ultimate Screen Guard.... any reason why?

I think Boxwave is one of the best. I have the anti-glare one, but would probably go with the crystal clear one as the anti-glare/anti-fingerprint has a sparkling effect on white backgrounds and slightly distorts text.

I would personally no longer recommend ANY Seidio product because they lie to their consumers (in case you weren't aware the 1750 MaH battery they sell is actually not much better than stock - http://androidforums.com/accessories-incredible/98877-seidio-liar-liar-your-pants-fire-11.html).

Any company that uses such deception with its customers does not deserve to be recommended IMHO

Boo. lol. I ordered Seidio screen protectors a while back because they had the best ratings on Amazon.com and needed something to get me to the super saver shipping rate (was ordering a book too). Ah well. It'll give me something to use for a while at least. I still have the screen protector the phone was shipped with (that says Remove before use haha!).

Skinomi was recommended to me, and I am glad it was. It is applied like window tint and isn't made to be removed. I was apprehensive at first, but man it makes the screen much smoother for scrolling. It has a little bit of a silicone feel to it so it doesn't scratch if your keys are in you pocket with the phone. It also has a very faint textures that makes it easy to move your fingers across. I'm one sided one this conversation b/c it's the only screen protector I've used...so IMHO

I use the Xtreme Guard protectors on all my family's devices. Have yet to have one scratch. The textured surface really helps with glare in sunlight. I will continue to use them until they no longer sell them.
