I noticed that in order to update your nexus one you need to either use OTA updates or download that zip archive, drop into sd card and boot in recovery mode but they have not worked for me.

The thing is, i have a weird build number and i think thats why it wont let me update it.
passion-userdebug 2.1 ERD72 22132 test-keys
Thats what i got, and i cant update it normally. Anyone know where i cant get started?

inb4 use search function, used it, nothing related to updating from my build, ive searched other forums too, nada...

Ok, I think I have a solution for you:

Download the following file: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3963477/passimg.zip
MD5: 31a7944d2af0ecdaa06f4bf8f1558a10

This is the STOCK 2.1 ERD79 that shipped with the Nexus One.

Steps:

1. Transfer the provided passimg.zip file to the root of your sd card.

2. Power down your phone.

3. Hold down the Volume Down button as you power your phone back on.

4. A screen should appear showing your phone's system searching for various files. This will take up to 2 minutes.

5. The phone will ask you if you want to start the update. Press the Volume Up button to start the update.

6. If you followed these steps correctly, Congratulations, you are now on stock ERD79 Android 2.1 and able to flash to any official Nexus One rom that has been released.

7. Once this has completed, then you can flash to the latest or you can wait for OTA notice.

[How-To] Stock 2.1 or any 2.2 build to latest Froyo (FRF91) - Google Nexus One Owners | Google Groups

If you just want to jump to the latest, use the following:

Universal update file (for any nexus one - gsm or aws):

ALL GSM Update (82MB) (From 2.1 or 2.2 to build FRF91 (Final w/Security Update))
MD5: 0cf344b36f6ff7f8e2a2c52da203af59

Follow the instructions on my page to get it done right. :D

Hope this helps!

Hope it works, keep me updated. If it does not work, I can keep digging into it. :D

As for Dropbox, I LOVE it and use the hell out of it. I am maxed at 10.25GB on my FREE account (thanks to referrals!!!). The Nexus One Owners Google Group I started, I have all the files hosted for that page on my Dropdox and it has been working great! :D

sorry dude, none of the images worked, i tried both the universal and stock 2.1 image but the validation error keeps popping up. Also, i keep getting, in yellow letters

E:Can't open /cache/recover/command

right after i hit the volume up and power buttons after the little droid bot with the exclamation mark.

maybe thats my problem.

all i found was this e: can't open/cache/recovery/command - Page 2 - Droid Forum - Verizon Droid & the Motorola Droid Forum
Manual update problem - E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command - Android Help

Are you getting that error when you try the following in my post above?

Download the following file: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3963477/passimg.zip

yep, cant even go back to stock, i was just wondering if maybe theres was a way of doing it through my desktop instead, kind of like the iphone and the recovery system from itunes

update: nvm, tried again and it looks like its going
update two: I finally did it, im at 2.2, although it took my little robot here a long time to finally give in, i think the flash player on the browser was well worth the fight. Thanks alot dude, will never forget this...
