So I must say goodbye to my eris and say hello to my Droid. I got my 4th replacement and after 3 days it stopped reading my memory card and asked me to reformat it. so i went in to Verizon and handed them my phone. no big convo other than what was wrong with my phone. they said they were going to replace it so I asked what else they could do and they offered me a droid. so I agreed. as usual Verizon was very helpful and I am happy with the outcome.

Good luck to all trying to replace your Eris phones.

this is a summary of what went wrong with my phone.

Phone 1
Would not charge
Track ball was malfunctioning

Phone 2
whenever the phone would make calls it was only the sound of static that I would hear

Phone 3
It would randomly call people just after I had gotten off the phone with them
Silent bug
Would scroll to the left
unusable for up to 5 minutes after making a call

Phone 4
Randomly call people when I turn the phone on from sleep mode.
Memory card stopped working.

I've had my Eris a little over three weeks. I joined this forum soon after and was shocked to see the amount of problems people are getting. I mean, some of you are on your 4th phone for crying out loud! That, to me, is just unbelievable. After a while, it became sort of depressing to visit this site. So far, I have none of the problems described here. <knocks on wood> I am by no means a heavy user, nor do I have a boatload of apps, just a few. I think that goes a long way in staying trouble free, but I don't know. I actually love my phone.
Anyway, this forum is great for people looking for help and answers and has helped me learn a lot about my phone. I appreciate all the input I have received from the countless, helpful people here.

Keep in mind, kevco, that the highest percentage of device forum users who post come to the forums and join for the reason of lack of some functionality or unfamiliarity with remedies for problems.

I'd say at least 3 out of 4 new users come here for those reasons, and that goes for the Blackberry forums or any other device forums.

So, when we read in here we get the false impression that 3 out of 4 Erises are bad; meanwhile the vast majority of Eris owners, only a few of who are in the forums at all because they have no reason to be, are happy campers.

Having said that, I do feel that quality control was a problem in production of the Eris, and that it has a higher percentage of problems, mainly with hardware, than other Android devices.

I'm on my third Eris. VZW has been unwilling to upgrade me to a different phone for free. I'm not sure where all these people live that tell stories of VZW giving them a different phone, because VZW has never ever even considered this for me over the years.

However, since I've rooted my phone I've been much happier. I tried a few roms including the KaosFroyo (which ran worse than the stock ROM) and a few others until I came across White Widow. This ROM is incredible. It's completely stable and unbelievably fast. I now have zero lag and will probably keep my Eris instead of trying for an Incredible.

I had problems with several Eris phones and Verizon recently let me switch to a new motorola droid and I LOVE it. My husband is a die-hard blackberry fan and even he wants the droid now - I told him to wait for the droid 2 to come out next month. I am sure you will be very pleased with your new moto droid. Good Luck!

well I have a fun filled update.

I was excited to see my package arrive yesterday and I could not wait to open it. So i rip it open and first pulled out my new droid battery. I pull out the droid battery cover, and then I pulled out a DROID ERIS. I was not happy. I then went back to verizon and they are supposedly sending me a Droid that will arrive Friday. They then set up my Eris I got in the mail so that I at least have a working phone.

If I get a droid on Friday then I will have used 4 phones in a week from verizon!

I also was having problems with my 3rd Eris, After calling VZW and told the lady that this is just not acceptable having to go through 3 phones in 2 months, she said she would ship me another eris which I politely asked her if there was ANY other phone i could get. She said she would look to see what "Replacement" phone they have for an Eris and said that the Moto Droid was it. I accepted and now have a Moto Droid, which seems to be much better in my opinion than the Eris was.

I live in Colorado, It might be a regional thing...Not really sure

I totally agree. I've had my Eris since November 2009. Besides the silent bug just once, I haven't had a single issue with the phone.

Yeah, I kind of wish it had more memory in order to store more apps, but I knew its limitations even before I bought the phone. I have no one to blame, so to speak, other than myself.

All I can say is this: If you like your phone, good for you. If you don't, go get another phone, either another Eris or a different phone all together.

You can please some of the people all of the time. All of the people, some of the time. And idiots(no one in particular), none of the time since they will never be truly happy no matter what happens.

My eris works just fine. The only problem I ever had with it is after I went on a marathon app downloading session, I got force closes so it was unuseable.

So, I did a factory reset, and guess what? worked just fine. I am not sure what Eris users are doing to their phones, but I have the same one and it works fine.

I got the droid x cause I have rolling upgrades every 4 months and I like new toys. Hit craigslist if you want an eris that actually works just fine.

I still wanna know what is happening that you have had this many replacements. I don't believe all were as defective as you claim. sorry. I do not.

I really liked my first phone. It worked very well and i was a big fan of it. There were small problems but nothing serious with my phone. Then the track ball went and I needed a new phone. My first replacement I got and made a call and realized the speaker was screwed. I took it to the verizon store and they agreed that that my phone was screwed. so I had another phone sent out. my third phone was the slowest one I had and would randomly become unusable. i did factory data resets and nothing seemed to change it. I am job searching and I am calling for interviews and after i got off the phone with someone it had the bad habit of calling them back a couple times. this combined with other problems I called up verizon and explained my problems. verizon offered a replacement to me. I got the replacement and it worked well until it stopped reading the memory card, I took it to verizon and they offered me a Droid. what is there to not believe?
