Root wireless tether is not working for me, help?

I've tried doing everything here but I still can't get wireless tethering to work. Everytime it says 0.4 down and stops. I've reinstalled the app over and over again, I have the .bin file on the sdcard under "android.tether". Frustrating!

I had a similar experience last night. Double checking each of the steps and resetting the phone a few times did the job. It wasn't working for a half hour, and then on one reset it worked and has been going since.

It's a bit frustrating overall, but just go over the steps methodically and be a little patient, and it should pop up. :)

(Sort of documented my experience in the end of this thread for anyone curious.)

Just noticed in that thread if you follow the link B92MOR posted you'll find:

Update

Depending on which device you have and firmware-version you need the latest experimental release of the app:

Experimental

Evidently, they are finding the same thing...there's something about the 2_0_2-pre14 that's being required in some cases. I would reaffirm the plan to d/l the file from post #5 and place it in your android.tether folder. Up to now I've been kinda guessing but that's another source that agrees. Looks like the latest experimental is 2_0_5-pre3. That might work as good or better, haven't verified it myself.

Thanks for the responses but I still can't get this to work.

I've tried putting the apk in the android.tether folder (tried it with wireless_tether_2_0_5-pre3.apk and wireless_tether_2_0_2-pre14.apk)

Tried rebooting the phone a bunch of times last night after each re-install but still get the same non-working result.

Uninstall Wireless Tether app from your phone altogether. Download 2_0_2-pre14 directly to your phone and run it. Once it's installed, move it from "downloads" into the android.tether folder along with the .bin file of course. Reboot phone. Retry.

I followed the directions exactly. It didn't work so I uninstalled and left it alone for a day.

I tried it again today and it works perfect now! I didn't do anything different but it works! I guess persistence is the key!

Thanks for the help!

THANK YOU!! I followed your instructions and then restarted my phone and am currently writing this from my laptop which is wirelessly tethered!! to my rooted Incredible with 2.2, S-off, updated Radio, and bloatware removed! :)

You rock.
