Hi..I've been reading these message boards since the Captivate came out. I was really thinking of jumping ship over to Android. After reading all of the posts here, I've decided to stay with my jailbroken 3GS running 3.1.3. What I realized is that my 3GS is running perfectly with no lag and I have all the customization features due to jailbreaking. The GPS is also working perfectly.
So I guess there is no reason to switch now - other than I really wanted a new phone.

good for you. Ill stick with my Samsung Captivate running Android 2.1. My GPS works perfectly, and the only time i ever have lag is when im running 10+ apps, so its expected. And i have all the customization features and i dont have to restore factory settings if it breaks. Your phone has 480x320 resolution? I guess ill just have to suffer with 480x800. And i guess i can live with having a 5 megapixel camera, instead of the 3 that comes on yours. I guess i can live with having 50 more minutes talk time on 3g, and almost twice your standby time. My expandable memory is such a burden too. And how dare my contacts and calendars sync with facebook? I mean really, it just makes my life way too easy.
Oh. Sorry... you were saying something...?

I am interested in your battery life tho. The other day i got 15 hours out of my phone with what i think is like a 7 or an 8 on a scale to 10 of use. Texting constantly, checking facebook and twitter, browsing on the internet for a couple hours. I dont mean to sound rude in this part, but if you did that with your phone, how much battery could you expect?

good, guess what, NOBODY CARES! Go waste bandwidth somewhere else telling pointless stories about what DIDN'T HAPPEN.

I think I'm going to wake up every morning and make a new thread about what I had for breakfast, because it would be just as important to this forum as this thread.

Macsrock, I don't think you are a troll. I wish people would list their reasons for not doing something more often. I emailed Dan@Sprint why I didn't switch to the Evo. Will Sprint listen? Maybe not, but I thought it was worth my effort on why I decided to stay with AT&T.

But I did decide to jump from a iPhone 3G to a Captivate. I upgraded my iPhone 3G to iOS4.0 and that was a huge mistake. But, it was time for a new phone any way and iPhones don't work well with Google Voice.

My biggest disappointment has been the GPS. I hope they get it fixed, or my Captivate goes back.

People do care as others might be in the same boat as I am. Also, this is not a breakfast board so that makes no sense at all. Its about the Captivate and that's what I was considering buying. Through my evaluating process, I did not feel its time to make the jump. Sorry if I offended you.

then why the heck wouldn't they do the same thing you did? Do you honestly think someone is going to find this thread important compared to all of the actual informative threads that actually discuss the issues, not just allude to supposed issues in other threads? All you did was summarize your findings on two problems, then brag about your phone and how you dont really need a new phone you just wanted one. Great.

I mean my battery life is awesome, lag..... what lag, I think people complaining about lag here are nuts or they have loaded to much crap on their phone, and my GPS seems to locate me just fine regardless of the app Im using (weather, maps, yelp, ect.) and it doesnt give me problems if I go 20 miles down the road or not. I might be in the minority, but the GPS issue will be fixed for those who are experiencing it, I dont see it alone as being a deal breaker for a serious buyer.

lol..defensive captivate owners itt
defensive about what? I could care less about his phone, this thread is a joke.

again.. there was no bragging here. You are the only one who saw it that way. Do you have similar problems in real life (offline life)? Do you have an anger problem? Are your friends and family always saying "calm down, I'm not questioning or challenging you" ?

who's angry? This isnt about me, your thread is just pointless, plain and simple. You might not have been bragging, but the only "information" you put in your original post was about your 3GS. Everything else was just fluff. All you said was "I like my current phone so Im not going to switch", which again is good for you (pat on the back). I really don't see the point of sharing that highly important information in a thread.

Are you an attention whore? Do you always have to be the one with the latest and greatest to be popular? Do you need to buy your friends to make yourself feel wanted? Did your family not hug you enough as a child?...... I can play those games too, grow up.

You certainly know how to get under
GalaxyS609's skin LOL , to bad ppl cant have a decent discussion about the phones faults . ppl only want to talk about the good.

I was in the exact same spot as you 3GS jailbroken running 3.13 and it was very smooth , no lags no GPS issues .

Gave the phone to my gf since 4.0 crippled her 3G. I am trying to love this phone but to be honest it feels like beta in so many ways . Im no fanboy . I am a fan of tech - period. This phone is great in so many ways . But the lag and other issues that ( read through the forums) shouldnt be present for such a high end device.

Basically im waiting and hoping Froyo (legit or not )hits before i get close to my 30 days

I for one am glad you shared, I think that this is a place to do it, and you are probably not 100% convinced of your decision, which is why you posted it here.

I'll tell you what I do and do not like about my captivate compared to my 3gs, maybe it will help you with your decision.

The 3gs, yes, the 3gs, not even the iphone 4, has SIGNIFICANTLY less lag than the Captivate. Those who disagree haven't owned both. Opening up applications, web browsing, switching around the homescreens, everything is less snappy. This is my biggest complaint so far and it is a big one for me. To alleviate the problem I have installed launcherpro and adw launcher. Launcherpro seems to help a little. I have also installed SetPCU and keep the processor running at 1ghz, I have chargers everywhere so this isn't a problem for me, and this seems to help a little as well. I have also rooted my phone and deleted the ATT bloatware. I have not yet installed any of the roms that address lag as I am awaiting for a streamlined procedure since this is all new to me and I am still timid about bricking my phone. But I am certain that I will install many other updates as well.

Though it may be seen as a pain in the ass to some, I thoroughly enjoy tinkering with my phone. The development community for Android is robust and usually helpful. The fanboys are not nearly as brainwashed and annoying, typically willing to admit faults as opposed to getting defensive, something that is pretty much non-existent in iphone forums. Ultimately, the customization of Android phones is what has won me over. My phone feels like mine, not something I leased from big brother Jobs. Yes, I kept up with jailbreaking my iphone, but once you get into it, the customization level just isn't there with the iphone. LauncherPro and ADW launcher are just a couple of prime examples, you could never do something like that with Apple products. Some would say that they don't have to so they are ok with it, I like having the option.

The GPS issue is annoying, mine works ok, enough to show me within the vicinity of where I am, but not good enough for a modern smartphone. If this is not fixed before my 30 days are up, I am likely going to return my phone. I am an attorney by the way and I think that this is class-action material. You cannot sell a phone advertised with a working GPS and then release this garbage. Very upsetting. However, I honestly believe that this will be fixed, and relatively soon, so I do not think I will have to return my phone.

I'm also a little dissapointed in the camera, but it is livable.

I hope that you are happy with whatever decision you end up making. I know I am, I cannot imagine going back to Apple, and I am stuck on ATT because of a family plan. I say take the Android for a spin, give yourself a couple of weeks to become acclimated, install some things to speed it up a bit, if you don't like it, then return it and go back to Apple, but if you give it a sincere shot, I doubt that will happen.

Hope this helps.

Moved this to the Non-Android phone section since it is supposed to be about the 3Gs and not the Captivate

I think this is bullshit, even the moderator is too sensitive. This has more to do with the Captivate than the 3gs, the original poster wanted to share his views with and get opinions from Captivate owners. That isn't going to happen where you moved him.

We need to make sure we do not become Apple. Adverse opinions should be welcome here.

I'm not being sensitive in any way and neither I nor AndroidForums have a problem with adverse opinions in anyway. The reason that I moved the thread had to do with the OPs original post as well as the follow up posts. He/she clearly stated that after readying about the Captivate that he/she plans to keep their iPhone instead. I do not see anywhere in the original post nor in the subsequent follow up posts that the OP asked for others opinions or requested feedback about the product in any other way. There were no request to prove him/her wrong or to convince him/her that the iPhone should be given up. The fact that the OP stated that his/her mind was made up to stay with the iPhone along with the title of the thread itself is reason enough for me to move it to the Non-Android portion of the forum as the iPhone is clearly not an Android device.

If you are unhappy with my decision, I'm sorry.
