Help Wifi Issues - Can't Resolve

I've been reading the wifi threads on here, the Verizon forums, and the Motorola site forums. I've changed the router settings on my home wifi router according to directions found on those sites. For the first time today, I tried wifi at a different location. It worked perfectly at first, but dropped the connection after about 20 minutes and wouldn't reconnect. It shows that it's connected, but data won't refresh.

So my question is, is the wifi problem with the Droid X something that everyone is afflicted with when trying to hook up to 802.11n routers, or is it only some Droid X's. The 3G signal in my house and at work isn't strong enough for me to download larger files like audio books without timing out. I'm wondering if it's worth trying for a replacement or if I should wait for some kind of software fix. I don't hold out much hope for that anytime soon - the Verizon rep was completely unaware that there was any kind of issue with wifi on the Droid X. I know they are generally clueless, but I would think if it was widespread enough they would have at least heard about it...

After dealing iwth this, I understand why Droid X owners are using 5X as much data as other Verizon smartphone users. We don't have wifi options...

I received a replacement phone and wifi connection was one of my issues but the replacement does the exact same thing. I have no 3G and very limited 1x signal in my house so I was willing to try anything and found installing "wifi fixer" and rebooting after install helps. In the last day and a half I have only had 1-2 times where when I was browsing I didn't have wifi but the great thing is wifi fixer refreshes the connection automatically. I should mention before installing it I was lucky if the phone would download a single app.

My guess is that the implementation of n support on Droid X is not very robust. It seems to work with some routers and not others. My solution was to change the router setting to "g only" and my problems disappeared. Others have had the same results. If this isn't an option for you, and you're willing to change your router, I would try to find the brand/model of the n routers of Dx owners that have had proven success. If not, your only hope may be that this problem will be resolved in upcoming firmware updates.

I believe the issue with the DX and WiFi may be dependent on the brand and model of wireless access point (router) being connected to. I've been successful getting my DX to connect to both a Linksys WRT610N Wireless-N router and to a Cisco Aironet 1142 access point. Both were running WPA2 with AES encryption. In each case the connection was stable and reliable.

I had a Linksys WRK54G and my phone would freeze and hang up. It was definitely related to wifi, I found that I couldn't turn off wifi when the phone was in this state. It would usually take 3 or 4 reboots to get the phone where I could turn off wifi. I also found that sometimes I could reboot the router and then the phone and the problem would go away. But it always came back, usually after less than a day. I have since purchased a Linksys E2000 that I have running in mixed mode and my problem hasn't returned. I think the router played a key role in my problem. I would also have intermittent connectivity issues with my wife's laptop on the old router that seem to have disappeared as well.

That's pretty much the answer I was looking for, though I'd love to hear from others as to whether or not you're having issues with wifi. And, if anyone wants to chime in on what type of wireless router they're using 802.11n that is playing nice with the Droid X, that would be helpful as well. At least I could have wifi at home.

I've posted about this before, but my Droid X will now connect to both my DIR-655 router and my TredNet TEW-637AP access point now that I have the encryption set to TKIP. Both are running in mixed-mode 802.11 n/g.

I have had zero wifi issues since I made that change.

I was also able to connect it to a Zonet 802.11n router (not sure of the model) at a family member's house last weekend when I was over for a party.
