Root Help with flashing SPRecovery

So I decided to root my stock 2.1 droid. I'm following the instructions on this site. I've installed RSD lite 4.6, loaded the drivers and put my phone on bootloader mode. My cpu sees the phone. When I try to flash SPRecovery I receive an error saying the flash failed unable to retrieve initalization values. Windows xp 32 bit cpu. I've tried moving the sbf file to different locations but same error message every time. Anyone know how to fix this?

Have you tried downloading the sbf file again?

Could be a bad download. That is why guides to rooting often advise checking the md5sum to ensure your download is good.

are you sure you installed the 32bit drivers and not the 64bit ones?

Sorry if these questions are sounding elementary but seems most of the time people have that error its a download or driver issue.

I really not sure what else to try. You could try running as an admin although its usually not needed when using XP and if you are already on the admin account of XP it actually does nothing at all

I am on the admin account but from what I have read it does not matter on XP. Is there any alternative way to root?

You could try using a 2.0.1 sbf file and then use DMUpdater to root. Personally I would try another computer if you can. RSD Lite just seems to hate some computers.
