I've been using it since July last year and its AMAZING on the EVO.... Who else is using it and what are your tips and tricks...
Honestly I havent given out my real number in about a year now since i've been using it. The only downside is when a female I gave it to hits me up like.."Did you get my pic I sent.." D'OH!
This is the big discussion for GV users on Sprint. Evidently, outgoing calls using google voice count as landline calls (i.e. not free), since it dials through your google voice number.Okay... I just found out something crucial regarding Google Voice.....
IF YOU ARE USING THE EVO AND DO NOT HAVE THE $99 EVERYTHING PLAN, YOU SHOULD NOT USE GOOGLE VOICE TO MAKE CALLS!!! When you make a call using Google Voice on your EVO, you are pulling from your 450 or 900 minute pool! I was under the impression that calls were free because they were VOiP... I was SUPER wrong... All Google Voice calls, even ones to other mobile numbers, are routed through landlines first which mean Sprint counts it as a land line call!
Now if you don't think you'll use up your 450 or 900 minutes in a month, by all means, use Google Voice, but if you are like me and hardly EVER call a landline, and call a bunch of mobile numbers, then stay away from using Google Voice to make calls...
SMS are sent over the data network so those are actually free but having a sprint plan you know its redundant because sprint gives you unlimited Texts already...
Sadly, I gotta put GV on the shelf until they make it true VOiP...

The big question is, when you receive a forwarded call through GV, does it count as a mobile if the call is originating from a mobile and as a landline if the call is originating from a landline?

I use it exclusively for the transcribed voicemails, and the custom individual recording. .
I have a bigger concern?? Say some one calls me using my GV #, it forwards to my cell phone, i heard sprint charges 20 cents per min for call forwarding, but immediate call forwarding is free. Anyone know the exact definition. This is what has prevented me from givin my GV # to my friends as of right now. I am worried bout charges. I obviously wouldnt make calls using my GV as i have unlimited mobile to mobile, And your GV # doesnt pop up on their caller ID only during SMS form what i have read.
Anyone shed any light on this?
With the EVO you can choose to have your GV number displayed on the other persons caller id when you call out. I don't know about the 20 cents a minute thing but I would say that if you don't have the $99 everything plan, I wouldn't use GV as EVERY call you make would come out of your minute allotment.
Damn that sucks man. I was just about to sign up for this.
Connectz, how did you find out about it pulling from your minutes ?
I'm assuming the Everything Data Family Plan is a no go as well ?
What is the advantage of using GV for calls anyway? I use it or VM but why would I need to make calls from it?what I did was get the 5 dollars call to home. I then called CS and told them I was told I could get the friends and family thing (whatever it is called where you get 3 or 5 numbers).
The very kind CS lady did it happily for me and for the 5 bucks I added any landline (including my GV number) I would potentially call.
A month later using that 5 dollar add on I used a total of 20 minutes of my 450 allotted minutes in my plan.
Well worth it to keep using my GV number
