Losing 1% battery every 2 minutes

I have a utility at the top called Battery Indicator reporting the percentage of battery power remaining. I did a test where I would randomly click pages on this site and wait a few seconds on each page, over 3G, and concluded I was losing 1% every 2 minutes.

Is this normal or is it comparable to your experience?

So... if I'm understanding you at all... you were clicking around loading webpages on 3G for 2 mins straight and were losing 1% battery every 2 mins? If that is the case... that doesn't sound horrible. The 3G antenna on ANY phone sucks down quite a bit of juice, and using it for a few minutes straight loading page after page is sure to start to use up some battery power...

Also, it was found on the G1 back in the early days of android that a lot of the "battery meter" type of applications suck quite a bit of juice themselves because they are nearly constantly polling for the battery percentage, which becomes just another process constantly running that eats up juice. Remember that the system is already doing this twice; once in the system (under settings -> about phone -> status) and again to generate the nice graphic in the notification bar (shown as a chart instead of a percentage). Adding a third one, although handy, can help chisel away at that battery life. There may be apps that have fixed this somehow or have found a way to poll from the already existing system poll, but even so it is another redundant background process, and as of last February, I knew of none in the market that didn't have a detrimental effect on the battery life...

It was kind of ridiculous. I had it fully charged and after browsing around for 15 minutes, it was down to 85%.

I need to test wifi and see how it compares.

Not "Battery Indicator". Per its author, it sits idle until the system sends a notification that the battery status changed, which is every 1%.

Ok, you aren't exactly being clear on what you were doing. Are you sitting there loading page after page after page as soon as they finish, just to test it out? Or are you just casually loading a page, reading it, and going onto the next one?

I was trying to simulate casual browsing, skimming through each page for about 10 seconds and clicking a different link.

This is how I access my battery percentage. This is how I recommend the OP monitor his battery....
