Also, it was found on the G1 back in the early days of android that a lot of the "battery meter" type of applications suck quite a bit of juice themselves because they are nearly constantly polling for the battery percentage, which becomes just another process constantly running that eats up juice. Remember that the system is already doing this twice; once in the system (under settings -> about phone -> status) and again to generate the nice graphic in the notification bar (shown as a chart instead of a percentage). Adding a third one, although handy, can help chisel away at that battery life. There may be apps that have fixed this somehow or have found a way to poll from the already existing system poll, but even so it is another redundant background process, and as of last February, I knew of none in the market that didn't have a detrimental effect on the battery life...
