Accessories Recommend a 16 or 32gb microSDHC

I hear there are various qualities and speeds to be expected based on brand and model. Many people have expressed gratitude that the INC will most likely not come with a microSDHC card so they can buy their own.

So, people who are experienced with these cards, a) what's a best buy and b) what's a best performer?

Well best performance wise, you would want a "Class 6" card. These are the fastest data transferring cards available, and definitely perform the best in terms of complementing your device. Other then that, most people would agree bigger is better, so 32gb obviously is more useful then 16, which in turn is more useful then an 8gb card.

Best buy wise: newegg.com usually has some decent deals, also, the longer you wait, the cheaper these cards will become.

I found a Kingston brand 16gb class 10. It was on ebay for about $100. I think the 32gb run closer to $200

Can someone verify what the maximum micro sd card is for the Incredible? I know 16 GB is what has been discussed, but supposedly it can handle 32 GB with an update or rooting or something to that effect.

Can anyone confirm or verify the story with the maximum memory?

There's SD < or = 2gb. SDHC 4-32gb and sdxc 64gb-2tb. There's nothing to verify it's a sdhc slot so therefore 32gb max.

Can a smartphone really benefit from class 10 speed? Class 6 seems to be around 16-20MB/sec reads. The interface on the phone must have some speed limitation. Anyone know what it is for the INC or what it is on other HTC smartphones?

Assuming the "leaked" manual is correct, the microsd can be accessed without removing the battery. If you need more than 16gb, just buy two 16gb, since half the price of a 32gb microsd. Prices will drop though (usually 30%), by the end of the year.

That all said, I think the manual is wrong and you have to remove the battery (just like the Desire and Nexus 1).

I steered clear of those class 10 cards. They get bad reviews on newegg about them being a lot slower then expected.

Ok, but how does this solve the problem of higher memory? I know this is going to sound really stupid but, are there 2 slots on the phone for 2 16gb cards to go in? Or are you basing this on the idea that a person would swap the cards out and use them interchangeably?

I guess my question still remains, will the Incredible handle a single 32 Gb microsd card?

It should. Swapping cards sounds like a painful idea since those are some tiny things to be carrying around.

In regards to class 10 cards being slower, but that's not what the big number on the card says. 10 > 6. Someone posted a link last week comparing a class 4 versus a class 10 card. The read speeds were identical, which ismost of what people would want around here.

Only benefits is when filming in HD, moving movies to the memory card or moving large files it seems.

If you use the card in a USB-reader for filetransfer on a PC I guess a faster card is better.

Class rating has to do with MINIMUM WRITE SPEED. You are hardly going to notice any difference between them, especially when it comes to read speed.

I know with Super KO Boxing, slower cards definitely show during load times. A class 6 will blaze through the load bar, while a class 2 will leave you sittin there waiting for 15 seconds waiting to start your game.

They just give you more storage. Some apps (like games) need them to install extra files to so they don't use up your app memory (and they don't see the internal storage, but maybe one day that will be fixed).

For me, size is everything. I have a class 2 16gb card in my Magic at the moment but I am bursting at the seems with that and want to upgrade. My preference would be to go straight up to a 64gb card so I can more or less do away with my Ipod but I gather none of those on the market now will be compatible with my phone. But are any 32gb cards compatible? On Wiki it says the maximum supported is 16gb but i dont know if that is right.

Another question: which Android phones, if any, do support the 64gb cards? And with 64gb relatively new, will it be a long time before we see any bigger cards than this?

The dream is to have a single Android device, sorting my phone and MP3 needs out in one place, with enough storage to put my whole music collection on there, possibly with some space left over for a few videos to keep the kids entertained when in restaurants or in the car, when no wifi is available. Alas, it seems like this dream is some way off, I guess I will need a separate MP3 player for the foreseeable.

I have two 32gb cards (one in N900 and one in Inc). For media playback and games, I notice no difference, but for file transfers and mass file indexing I notice it is slower (about half as fast).

Since file transfers and mass indexing for media is less than 5% of total time using the device, I will accept the slower transfer speeds, since there is no apparent performance difference anywhere else. If you are a media fan, 32gb is best bet

BTW, 64gb is currently not possible with the current microhd tech. Also, look how long it took 32gb to come out after 16gb. Very long time and still only one 32gb maker- Sandisk.

It would rock real hard to see a two card microsd phone (if it had other good features too).
