How many Apps you got?

Hello,

First I'll reiterate how grateful I am for the help from members of this forum!

Coming from an Eris, I'm still hypersensitive to the quantity of apps I carry on my phone. Just curious as to the average amount of apps people have on their DX's.

Per AppBrain im currently toting 38, though I'm not certain that included preinstalled.

Thanks in advance!

Update:

The running avg is 93.3125

I've got a bit of app envy to be entirely honest

woah... i've got 96... but i really push the droid to the limits.... tons of game emulators, all kinds of apps, sling box, poynt, google maps, my tracks, google earth, google sky... many I had no idea i had this many installed, appbrain does include all the native apps as well.... and I have like 5 or more live wallpapers... is there any draw back to having this many? i know there just taking up space but i really do use them all I actually just deleted a bunch yesterday and did a clean up... but as long as there not actively running they shouldn't slow down the phone correct?

It makes intuitive sense that many apps won't hurt so long as there's sufficient space but I am in no way qualified to venture beyond intuition.

on my eris I hit a wall where I couldn't install anymore apps so when an app came out that I wanted to try i'd have to uninstall one to gain another.. Bank of America App or latest farting app? Obvious answer, but i'd still really like to know my CC balance.

8 gigs memory on DX makes this a non-issue yet i can't seem to shake the mentality. Your 98 figure is comforting though.

The apps aren't stored in the 8GB internal storage memory but in the 512MB RAM and only part of it is partitioned for apps. It's 196MB on my N1, so I'm thinking it's the same or less (depending on how much memory Touchwiz UI uses).

I think it's helpful if you include how much memory are being used for apps. Since you can say 10 apps but if they are all high intensive (20mb each), then you've basically used up most of your memory.

roze, correct me if i'm wrong but these app are not stored in the 512 ram... they are stored in internal storage, however when you actually run the application that is when the ram is used...

You are correct. The 8 gigs are where the apps are stored. There is no access to save pictures and videos, etc on it. The X isn't partitioned like the N1 or the Inc. which has 748 mb (i think?).

I think you are in the wrong forum lol. Moto doesn't use touchwiz. Also RAM is different. It doesn't store apps but its the memory that apps use for quick access or are temp stored when multitasking.

*blushes like crazy* That was embarrassing...
Thanks for the clarification on both accounts  Fudge...it's motoblur -_-; I need an e-black hole to gobble me up now :/

I'm going back to my forum cleaning duty and not post anymore.

According to appbrain I have downloaded 147 apps. But a lot of those are widgets, font packs, and live wallpapers, which don't show up in my apps bin. Still, that's a heck of a lot. But I have like different calender apps, two launchers (ADW and Launcherpro) and like a million different tool apps.

so the running avg is 84.667 but me and dark matter are really bringing it down..

I didn't realize how apparently little 38 is!

Don't worry, I'll download a few thousand and bring it back up :)

BTW, I noticed the cubed player - which I absolutely love - is screwing with the phone lock. I like being able to control songs without unlocking the phone, but when I'm not playing music and just using the phone, the phone won't lock.

That's actually the only issue I've run across with any apps I've downloaded so far.

What's funny and sad at the same time is that I only have maybe 5 or 6 apps that I've downloaded from Android Market. I'm coming from the original Blackberry Storm so I'm still in the mindset that I dont have enough room for more apps. Day by Day I'm getting used to how AWESOME the Droid X is.

I'm also extremely paranoid about bad apps (malware) so it takes me forever to decide whether to pull the trigger on an App.

I don't worry so much about malware. Most of the stuff I've downloaded are games. I'll download a few demos, try 'em and chuck 'em. If it's one I like I'll buy it. I also like news apps, and tech stuff like remote computer shells and FTP programs.

All my contacts are stored on gmail and exchange servers, and my photos and stuff are automatically backed up daily by lookout, so if something borks the phone a hard reset is no big deal, I'm back up and running in a few minutes.

I will say do download and run lookout mobile security. I ran it on my winmo phone and it's great, works even better on this phone. The locate function never worked on my winmo phone, but it finds this phone in a few seconds.
