Who really doesn't think the GPS problems are that big of a problem at all?

It just doesn't bother me. The only thing that bothers me is how I used 51% battery last night during the hours of 11PM and 5AM.

There has to be a memory leak somewhere thats killing the batter, that is the only thing I can think of. I wonder if a fresh OS flash wouldn't help the battery out?

All in all though, neither of these are really bad enough for me to get rid of the phone.

Have you looked at settings/applications/running services to see what was running at that time? If you have background apps updating overnight that will be a drain ... also by default the phone is set to disable wifi when the screen turns off. If you have wifi available at home, your power usage would probably be less if you allow the wifi to stay on when the screen is off. Background updates over 3G are a battery hog ...

I did that WIFI fix, I'll need to check out my running services and see what is going on. I do know what I just let it die and now this battery recharging is taking forever.

GPS is not that big of a problem to me either. All the apps that need to access my location don't need street level accuracy, they (apps like weather) can just use cell tower information and provide accurate weather, movie theaters nearby, etc. I only sometimes need GPS, but I'm still awaiting a fix/update. Managing battery life can get tricky. You'll have to examine what you have updating and how often, screen brightness, running services, and running tasks (among other things). Yesterday morning I installed a couple of applications and my battery was down to 40% around 1:30pm (horrible...). I got home and uninstalled a couple of applications I suspected to be the culprit(s), managed a few settings, and today my battery seems to be back to normal. I unplugged around 815am and 3 hours later my battery is at 99% . My suggestion is to limit what automatically updates, and for apps that you do choose to automatically update, change the frequency to be less often. Also check running services for things that could be impeding the battery (be careful not to force stop system tasks or anything you're not sure of what it is).

Oh, and I wouldn't use a live wallpaper...

I had similar resuts at first but then discovered that I had 15 browser windows running and at least 10 of them refreshed constantly. Wallpaper is also an issue and if your signal is bad at home, phone has to work extra hard consuming most of your battery. So don't blame the phone per say, look into all these things. Also, if you are not using the GPS, turn it off. That saved me a good amount of battery life. I can get by a day and a half with moderate use.

I agree the GPS issue is not a concern at all for me. I didn't buy the phone for a GPS i bought it for a phone. I have a Garmin for my GPS needs lol.... Battery I do not think is all that bad at all. I think it is VERY VERY comparable to iPhone 4 and also better then most other smartphones out there.

I also have no real issue with the GPS - I have a GPS mounted in the car, so it's really of limited use to me anyway. However, when I try to get a lock outside, usually takes about 1-2min, and then it's golden.

I agree with Fate0n3. I have a friend that jumped from the iPhone 3G to the iPhone 4 and he's complained about his battery being eaten up by the OS, services, etc. We have to keep in mind that our Smart Phones are not standard phones (1 charge = 2 weeks of standard usage). We will probably never have a Smart phone that runs for a week on one charge with moderate use.

The GPS issue isn't really an issue to me. I get a good lock fairly quickly most of the time. I'm sure we'll see a fix soon.

Not to be rude... but it doesn't matter if some of you don't use it. It's a big advertised feature, and its function is inherent for many other smartphone-style tasks well beyond just routing and navigation.

It's like having a car where the seatbelts in the back seat don't stay latched, then having 100 people be like "well it's no big deal, in our family we never have anyone sitting in the back seat". Well, bully for you... but it's a fundamental feature that many other people do use and so it needs to work.

I can kinda see your argument, but I disagree. They're not saying the GPS thing isn't a problem, they're just saying it isn't that big a problem FOR THEM. The issue is being addressed, Samsung has pretty much confirmed it. I mean I don't think many people are denying the issue exists, only saying that it doesn't affect them enough for them to be complaining about it.

I think a better example would have been the cup holders in a car not fitting the giant cups. Not everyone uses those, but the people who do find it a problem. Everyone else doesn't see enough of a need to complain about it.

I'm not excusing Samsung or saying that it's alright for the GPS to be inadequate. Rather, I'm saying that since GPS is not a necessity for me, it hasn't affected me and I don't see it as a huge problem. However, I am fully expecting the issue to be fixed.

Ahh fair enough, I forgot the whole aspect of fixing it... well I guess there aren't any car analogies that work then since a dealer isn't about to do that.

My GPS works fine - been using it on and off all week, and I get locks very quickly 90+% of the time, and accuracy is more than acceptable.

The step-by-step directions are useless if it can't properly determine where you are for a starting point. Last night it had me many roads away in another part of town, so the turns it was giving me were nonsensical.

I'm lucky if it puts me in the correct town, and that's not an exaggeration
