Root Official Unrevoked Developers have Froyo on EVO

My only concern now is if I download this file and install update, what happens with the file HTC will send starting 8/3?

Will my EVO pick up the update?

Will it say I am already updated?

Will it brick my phone? (if I apply the "official" update after I installed this today)

That's my concern now.

1. For any update via OTA, the standard EVO prompt applies and gives you the choice to accept or reject the update.

2. If you've already got it, reject it.

3. Supposedly - if they have no boo-boos in the installer side of things this time (they've had that ONCE) - it will compare the firmware you have to what they have and simply tell you no updates needed at this time.

If they don't detect that you have it, goto step 1, finish at step 2. ;)

Anything else - you have to wait for answers from the genius community next week when the unknowns all become known.

There is risk in using this update.

Do not be fooled - there is risk in using this update.

However - it's considered reasonably low enough that many people will try it.

If you're conservative with your phone - and I don't think there's one single thing wrong with that - wait and decide after reports come in.

Hope that helps.

Is someone downloading this as we speak?

Does it take a long time? The file is 84MB.

I think I will download it and then wait if someone updates the "official" one on Tuesday and see what happens.

I know that someone will eventually do it, unless my EVO picks up that I am "up to date" and I won't receive any notification from HTC, which is the best case scenario.

:)

I'm pretty sure if all goes well, your phone will pick this up as the most up to date software and when the OTA hits officially, it should see you already are up to date.

For those who need help:

1. Turn your phone off
2. While holding volume down, press power
3. At the prompt, choose bootloader
4. At the next prompt, choose recovery
5. You will get to a black screen with a phone and triangle
6. Press either power and volume up, or power and volume down (can't remember which one worked...I was too excited)
7. Some blue writing will appear at the top of the screen. Select "Apply update. zip" (I renamed mine update.zip)

*This is assuming you already copied it to your SD card

These directions worked for me: Manually Update Your Nexus One To Android 2.2 Froyo! | Android Phone Fans

At the part where it gets to the "picture of the phone and the triangle" in recovery mode, it took a while for the phone to be responsive to the power+up press, but it worked eventually.

After the reboot at the end, it took a long time to finish updating and get to the launcher, but eventually finished. My internal memory and apps are all intact. The Droid X multitouch keyboard crashes with Froyo, and Swype no longer recognizes it as an approved device and doesn't seem to want to let me swipe, so I guess it's back to the HTC keyboard. That's all I know so far. Ok, back to work for me. Have fun!

Thanks!! It's patching right now.
