Root Official Unrevoked Developers have Froyo on EVO

This worked for me. I have an UNROOTED Evo. I edited the instructions to show how to get the phone off the phone and triangle correctly. Also, I added some further instructions on checking the right name for the file and what to expect after the yellow typing info.

THIS PROCESS WILL TAKE ABOUT 15 MINUTES. BE PATIENT FOLKS AND GOOD LUCK!!

Agreed, it takes quite a while. Just be patient. There are a lot of different update screens and sequences. Good luck!

I'm lost here. From my phone I scanned the barcode that one of the posters posted up. It downloaded thed file. When I go to downloads and click on it, I get three things (opened with ES zip viewer). First being checkspace-firmware.zip-fotaboot. Those are the three in order. What do I do from here? How do I put it to my sd card? How do i rename it? Do I have to do this on a pc or can it all be done on my phone? Please help!!!!

Here's how to do it using modified PHANDROID instructions;

Want to upgrade manually yourself?

  1. Download the Android 2.2 firmware for the Evo
  2. Rename the file update.zip and copy it to your microSD card via USB. [Note: make sure the file is named update.zip and not update.zip.zip.] NOTE: must be in the TOP LEVEL directory of the SD card.
  3. Power down your Evo
  4. Hold down the

*I just did this a second time on my wife's phone and was successful again! Here is the edited step-by-step instruction guide.

Download link: http://bit.ly/cCiIQu

1. Turn your phone off
2. While holding volume up, press power
3. At the prompt, choose bootloader
4. At the next prompt, choose recovery
5. You will eventually get to a black screen with a phone and triangle
6. Press power and volume up at the same time
7. Some blue writing will appear at the top of the screen. Select "Apply update. zip" (I renamed mine "update" without the quotation marks)
8. Yellow typed info will scroll on the screen. Once the update has finished it will tell you, "Reboot to finish installation."
9. Select the proper instructions for the reboot and use the power key to enter, as instructed. A weird phone with an arrow will show up and turn on and off a few times. WAIT for this to finish. It acts like your phone bricked, but it will eventually boot up correctly.
10. Once the phone boots, it will go through 2 more update screens. The last one takes the longest - about 5 minutes.

Your Evo will reboot and that's IT!!

*This is assuming you already copied it to your SD card

No, you don't want to click on it.

Plug the phone into your computer.

When it's charging, pull down the notification bar and select DISC DRIVE.

Now, using your computer, path to your phone's SD Card and find where that file is. It's probably in your Download folder.

Select it and MOVE it to your main (root, base, etc) folder of your SD Card (phone drive).

Rename it update.zip - not update.zip.zip.

Once you're sure you've done that, slide down your notification bar, select CHARGE ONLY, then disconnect from computer.

Then follow install instructions from here.

Think that will get you on track.

Instead of 6 recent apps, there are now 8.
There is a Dock section in the Settings
Display is now its own separate section in Settings.
Launcher Pro seems slightly faster. This EVO was already has as hell, lol.

Task OS doesn't work now. It opens and shows you the programs running but you can't swipe them up to delete. They go up but don't disappear.

from engadget, for what is worth

Update: HTC just shot us a message to clarify that this is not the final ROM version and that the company is strongly recommending not to install this. Additionally, a request has been put in to remove the file from the server, so if you still want to try at your own risk, better download now while it's still available.
