OK So When Is The Real Froyo Coming Out?

They will start rolling out OTA updates on Aug 3rd. Those who got it yesterday were a select few. Probably just to make sure everything was running ok. I think the OTA updates will be sent out in waves from the wording in Sprint's statement, so you may not even have it then.

The version that HTC posted probably is the final. The version number matches up with what Sprint says and how much work could they possibly put in between now and Tuesday??? They probably messed up by posting it and Sprint got on them about it.

Anyways I installed it last night. It's running great so far. Noticeably snappier than 2.1.

Whats the use, most are not accurate. There were a 1000 posts about it coming out on July 28th also. We all know how true that was now.

No there weren't. There were a thousand posts with the official memo that clearly said july 30th for manual and aug 2 or 3 for the push. You read it but I think you get off on starting new topics. That's the only explanation.

It may have been HTC's intent to release this as a release candidate. Or, maybe this was a previous RC and someone got their wires crossed and put the file info up at Sprint.

But given the camera and flash issues some people are having, I don't think this will be what Is released Aug 3.

I'm having zero camera or flash issues...., as far as i can tell those having flash issues are the ones who had a prior version of "full flash" installed. and camera is markedly better by all accounts i've read. not to mention my experience....

I had a camera issue with mine. I had Vignette installed when I flashed 2.2. After the update my camera would close. I hard reset my device and the camera now works fine.

If they start finding bugs with this version, which is the official noted version, and start trying to fix things, it might be a little longer for them to release it then expected as they would need reprogram and test everything again......

And for those saying that this isn't the release version, please tell me why they would send out an older version for people to test if they had a newer version to use. They took it down because they didn't want the masses getting to it yet, in case some things still needed to be fixed after the small rollout. They were basically covering their own ass by removing it.

Sounds like a bug in Vignette, not FroYo. FWIW, no camera problems here, and I have tested/used it. Vignette should be added to the list of apps to uninstall before upgrading.

The Droid X multi-touch keyboard does NOT work with FroYo. Uninstall that first otherwise you will be plagued with repeated force close messages from it after the install until you find/uninstall it. Again, not FroYo's fault though.

I'm not saying it was or wasnt the release version, but it seems there are a few ppl who had to do a hard reset to get 100% functionality. That means there are a few possible tweaks that can still be made before the OTA. When I create images at work and upload to our server, I roll them out to a few pc's to test and tweak the image as/if needed. Not usually major things, but things that do make a difference in certain aspects. I also keep the file name the same, no need in changing version/file numbers resulting in revised emails, documents, etc. Again, the update could've very well been the final, but the possibility the OTA version is slightly different is true too.

I have the file saved, just worried about chance of hard reset but theres no guarantee that won't be needed with OTA push either.

Takirb,

I think what Eric is saying is that there is NO way for HTC to test all of the current 2.1 apps that may conflict with froyo. So there will be bugs since we do not have to do a master reset and delete all of the apps. There is no possible way for them to eliminate that possiblity, they can reduce it, but not eliminate. Some current apps WILL cause problems with Froyo.

Definitely possible that there are some minor changes. But highly unlikely there is anything significant.

thanks for agreeing with me with that last part, was beginning to think maybe i was insane for being the only one to understand this concept LOL I downloaded the file last night in case HTC does move the OTA date till later. But after being patient while everyone tested last night and seeing that people are still not encountering "OH SH**" problems today, i think i might proceed with it during my downtime this weekend. I just hope any possible revisions they do make will still be available to the early installers.

As annoying as it is, I am a big fan of hard resetting a device after a major upgrade. It has always proven to run better from a fresh start.

it took me forever to manually link all my contacts with their FB profiles. That, the fact that i can't remember which gmail accounts i'm using for which apps on the phone, and the fear of having to reconfigure launcher pro, the dock, and home screens makes me dread hard resets. Guess i'll be chancing that either way with the OTA update as well too

A hard reset wipes all your personal data, right? Haven't had (dis)pleasure of doing that, but backing up now.. thinking I'm going to go ahead and take the plunge. lol

Removed a lot of apps, including Vignette..
Yes, it removes everything. Appbrain is your friend. The longest thing is customizing everything but the few hours it takes for that is worth the stable device.

One last quick question - does it wipe your SD card, or just all your settings, contacts etc as it relates to the OS and apps? Guess I should get my pics of my SD card.

And ugh, Android's and the Market (or apps) uninstalled needs to do a better job of cleaning up after itself. Lotta left over crap when you remove an app.

Wiping your phone wont do anything to your card.
