AMOLED or SLCD

if you have a magnifying glass then you can tell as the AMOLED has more separated sub-pixels, however it is much more vibrant and has deeper blacks than an LCD is able to achieve.

Outside AMOLED does suffer unless it's turned up to the highest brightness.

I am very happy with my Desire and I honestly don't think you'd appreciate a massive difference unless you put them side by side.

Hi guys,

Finally received my Desire form Vodafone yesterday after waiting 3 weeks!

Was wondering if there was anyway of telling if you have an AMOLED or SLCD screen?

Thanks :)

I just checked on the back of the box i have for my desire and it does say 3.7 inch AMOLED touch sensitive screen.

So i assume if it does not say that on your box you have the super LCD version.

Out of interest what model number does it say on the back? Mine says A8181.

Ok guys,

Ive taken a picture of the back of the box. Think I have SLCD as there is no mention of AMOLED.

Also there seems to be problems with the screen, Ive noticed that there is bleeding on thee top left & right of the screen. (Don't think AMOLED suffers from bleeding). (Picture also provided).

Returning to Vodafone for new one!

I got my desire a week ago, and it's the LCD one.

The model number seems to be the same, mine says A8181 but the Display Specifications does not say AMOLED. I have a friend that got his desire a month plus back and the model is the same but his box says AMOLED.

I read somewhere in the forums that if it's an AMOLED it'll say AMOLED if not then it's the LCD.

Hi... I'm definitely buying a Desire in the UK this week... My question is if I should be bothered about the introduction of the SLCD? ie should I buy an AMOLED off ebay, as there are a couple of new ones knocking about over there, or should I just forget about it and by a brand-new Desire with SLCD off amazon? Thanks

I wouldn't worry about the SLCD vs AMOLED debate, unless you spent most of your time in extreme darkness (get AMOLED) or in bright sunlight (get SLCD).

I almost certainly have an SLCD one as the blacks aren't completely black as you get a minor bit of backlight bleed, but in normal use, it's a vivid, colourful and very good resolution screen. Quality photos just leap off it, text is crisp even at extreme viewing angles which you'd never look at a phone at anyway.
