Forsaken By Apple

Greg and Carolina are an Australian, married couple who've had enough of Apple. Their iPhone 3G's (3G plural) have become all but unusable after their latest upgrade to iOS4 - an issue Apple has acknowledged and is looking into. Try as they might, their posts on Apple Support Forums would be repeatedly deleted. Feeling their options are small and their hands are being forced to upgrade, the want a change!

Enough is enough! We are saying goodbye to the iPhone... as soon as we get enough $$$ to switch to Android that is.

They are asking for help to get away from their hobbled devices to find out what Android is all about. While I don't usually handout $$ to just anyone that comes along, this seemed harmless enough to toss them a couple bucks. It's better than tossing it to the corner bum.

If you are curious, or wanna help, go check out their website. Donations can be given via PayPal or major credit cards. Be sure to read their compelling story... AppleCare? pshhh...

It's great we have cell phone OS gangs. If it's Apple, we have to hate it.

I'd attribute it to... I dunno. That a company is making billions while that individual isn't but it doesn't seem that relevant. But people can be jealous of a company and its money. As lame as it is.

Loyalty is overrated. And in this day and age, it's often a sign of ignorance and living in the past. To swing from Android's nuts will come back to bite those that are so close-minded.

Hey all, and thank you dominiej for your support! :)

Just thought I'd share my two cents, as all of your responses are very valid.

Firstly, indeed, if you want to donate to a real cause - do it. The donation thing was just a secondary thought and a fun thing to do.

And secondly, we do have jobs and we do work hard and we purchased our iPhones and have been happy for about 12 months. But the last month or so, it's been terrible. Now, let's make some comparison here... if you were to buy a car and for whatever reason, you bought it on a contract that locked you in for two years. If that car started, half way through your contract, to slow down, be unresponsive, and suddenly it took you 60 minutes to get to work when previously it took you only 30 minutes... you'd be upset wouldn't you? You'd go back to the car dealer and say, "hey Mr car dealer guy, my car is faulty please take a look." And you'd expect to get it serviced, get it fixed and be on your way. You wouldn't expect the car dealer to say, "sorry buddy, I know you only bought this one year ago and it was new and shiny then... but we've got new models now and we really don't want to help you, or even acknowledge that you do have a problem... please go away."

So to sum up, we did spend our hard earned money on our phone and on our phone service. In our minds, we are not getting what we paid for anymore. And if our service provider, the manufacturer and our insurance company aren't going to help... well, I'm sorry but I'm not just going to say, "sorry hunny, we are just two little pawns on this planet and we have to do what big brother says."

All this has come about because we've been pushed over the edge. I'm a patient guy. I'm a reasonable man. I don't start fights, I don't pick on people. But when someone tries to take advantage of me, I'm not just going to sit down and accept it... whilst giving them money!

The little guy (and girl) can't be forgotten here! The world is made up of lots of them!

Thanks!

Why don't you just sell or return your iPhones and buy something else? Why are you setting up a website which is clearly geared at bringing in donations? Lots of people play weird angles when it comes to getting donations and they may make some money out of it, but it doesn't exclude what they're doing from being lame. People that donate money to you should be ashamed, and so should you. There are FAR more worthy causes.

Hi all,

Quick update: we're not going to be keeping donations anymore. You, the public, have rightly made the point that it was a bit silly so we're not letting that overshadow what originally frustrated us to the point of doing all this, and that is to make Apple accountable to their paying customers.

So just quickly, we'll donate all funds to charity, details are all here if you are interested: Forsaken By Apple: Donations will all go to charity

And to further make the point, as stated, we did originally start this because of our frustrations at Apple and at our service provider. We are in a contract, we are paying a price (a premium price might I add for Apple's products) and we feel we are not getting our money's worth.

Now, yes, we could just sell our phones on eBay and get new ones but that is not the point. That would let the big companies think they can get away with ripping off their customers! I'd be happy to sell my phone on eBay and get a new one, and that is what I might have done if this didn't happen, but now because of this iOS 4 stuff-up, my phone is worth a bit less on the market. So again, we won't let them win. They need to be accountable.

Thanks.
