Going from Blackberry to X - email is better!

Just wanted to put this out there for those of you thinking about making the jump from a Blackberry device to the X. I was shocked to find that my email service has actually improved, especially considering how well known Blackberries are for their email prowess. On my Storm, my Gmail always worked fine, but my Exchange account was a bit screwy. Basically, I could delete an email on the phone and it would disappear from my laptop email program inbox (Apple Mail), however if I deleted an email from my laptop that had already been downloaded to my phone, it would stay there until I actually deleted it off the phone as well. This got really annoying considering I get 50-75 emails a day. Now with the X, even though it took a while to get Exchange going, it works as it should. Anything I delete from my laptop disappears from my phone within 15 minutes, and the same holds true going from my phone to my laptop. Saves me a lot of annoyance each day!

I'm coming from the Storm as well to my first Android device (Droid X) and I find that email is the only thing I miss about my BB. My only complaint with the Droid X is that I cant figure out how to mark all my items as read. I noticed that I can select all and mark as unread but then I would have to go back in and select all again and it gives me the optiion to mark all as unread. It's a bit tedious. Does anyone know an easier way of doing this?

One question for all. If I delete an email on my Droid X (Gmail) does it also delete it from my inbox if I were to login online?

Agreed. Came from a Pearl which handled my Hotmail account way better. BlackBerry has email sewn up still. And syncing contacts and calendar directly via USB too.

That's right I had forgotten how screwy my Storm was with work e-mail. While I have to agree with the other responses on here regarding my Storm handling e-mail better, this one instance of "two way synching" e-mails I delete on my work outlook inbox is a welcome fix from the storm which did not do this.

Its good to know that I wasn't the only one having problems with the storm. This was the best decision made. I I love my android.

I'm coming from a Curve which had very good email integration with gmail. The DX is also very good. Plus I don't have to have a separate sync app for google calendar.

The reason I prefer email on the Droid X over my Curve is very simple. The screen is huge and bright. I can see more, read faster, display photos larger. Plus the DX is just so much more snappy. The smooth scrolling is out of this world. Being able to open up a long email and scroll to where I need really really fast is awsome. There is no comparison.

I do agree about the mark all as read issue, and maybe Froyo will take care of it, but Exchange is SO much better that I am willing to forgive it.

Yes, it deletes from the server. If you don't want to delete, you can choose "archive" instead and it will send them to your "all mail" folder in Gmail.

Also, for being able to mark as read and select all, you may want to check out K-9. You have have the option of deleting from server when you delete from your phone, or not deleting from server, and you can select all or mark all as read.

Everything is better on the droid x. I got my wife a Curve over Christmas b/c she's a little smartphone "dumb". The internet is slow, can't load full pages, email blows, etc. The only thing on the whole phone that is better than Droid is the BBM.

I was a diehard blackberry fan for years but now 6.0 or not android is the way to go. Gmail is great on my X and yes better than my old berry.

LOL, I am also coming from the Storm. I cannot believe how AMAZING the difference is. Droid x > BB Storm

I'm coming from a BB curve 8330. My corp Email account was handled better by
curve. I do miss the curve email delete messages option
to delete on handheld &mailbox or handheld.

My corp email on X isn't perfect but I can live with for now.

I just got my X yesterday. I have one question. I added my school email to corporate sync. How can I have more than 5 emails show up on the inbox screen at a time. I can't find the option to add more. I have spent some hours trying to figure it out. I was able to do it on my Inc, but I am dumbfounded right now. Thanks for the help.

You should look over at the "Troubleshooting" sub-section of this forum. I'm sure you're not the only one with this issue.

Add me as another former Storm user (Storm 1 release day). I have to agree; my Droid X is far superior in every aspect, except email. I miss the ability to customize notifications per label or contact. I think there's an app for that, but why Google why couldn't you build that into the native gmail app?

Oh, and copy & paste was better too on the BB.

But all in all, I'm happy with the change to the world of Android.

I am using Touchdown for Exchange email and I pretty pleased by it. The only thing I really miss is the sync of the Notes part of the system. We use that feature pretty often.
Is there any way to get that on my DX??

I am using Touchdown for Exchange email and I pretty pleased by it. The only thing I really miss is the sync of the Notes part of the system. We use that feature pretty often.
Is there any way to get that on my DX??

I agree with this 100%. I wouldn't go back to a BB if you paid me, but I do wish the Email experience on the DX was a little more user friendly. The BB's system was very simple and very intuitive. The Android system... or maybe it's the Blur interface, is not nearly as intuitive. Really.. the whole messaging interface on Android/Blur is kind of confusing and actually seems like a step backward for me. I really think they should have stuck with the K.I.S.S. principle here.

Again, I am not talking about the interface. I am talking about Exchange and how well it works between my laptop, iPad, and Droid X. When I read messages on my laptop they show up as read on my Droid X and when I delete messages on my Droid X they disappear from my laptop. This NEVER happened on my Blackberry Storm and I tried everything suggested to me over on the Crackberry forums. It saves me quite a bit of time each day from just scrolling through my email and re-deleting emails that I had already deleted on my laptop.
