Hi forum.

Nice to meet everyone.

Quick question for you guys. I want to root my phone to enable wifi tethering. BUT! From what I understand the Froyo 2.2 update will allow wifi tethering for our Vibarant's. (Can anyone confirm?)

Ok, with that said. "IF" wifi tethering is availble with the 2.2 update will I be able to update my rooted phone?

The 2.2 update is also important to me because of the Flash 10.1, so it is definitely a prioirity for me.

Please let me know.

Thanks,

pop

wifi tethering in froyo 2.2 is not working, likewise for mobileap. Gives error.

I come from the standard i9000 galaxy s, there is wifi tethering for the phone. Vibrant doesn't have?

Edit: I am assuming that you are referring to the latest JP3 firmware, which is a development rom.

Jp3, sure... I guess. I have just researched that we should be getting the froyo 2.2 update sometime this or next month. I Don't believe that any Vibrant owners have the ability to wifi tether straight out of the box. At least Vibrant owners though t-mobile stateside...

Ok, so let's say i root my phone to allow wifi tethering because the 2.2 update doesn't support it. The 2.2 update has flash 10.1 which is another priority of mine.

Sooooo, back to my original question. If i root my phone now to enable wifi tethering will i be able to install the 2.2 update (when it becomes available) without a problem?

Follow up question. If i install the 2.2 update will i have to re-root my phone?

I don't mean to sound repetitive. I just want to max the utilization of my phone without any technical problems... I'm the least patient person when it comes to trying to fix things.....

Please let me know...

Dude go to www . junefabrics . Com download the app for android and program for your computer and start tethering your phone without rooting regardless of the version of android you are running. It works both on my girlfriends g1 and on my vibrant, also set it up on my buddies evo and it worked great.

Why put the name of the web site with spaces?:thinking:

Forum rules most likely...

I went ahead and downloaded the junefabrics tethering product. I actually found it on the android market.

Though it doesn't quite do what i want (become a wifi hotspot) it at least allows me to access the internet via my phone data connection....

Guess i will just have to wait for the Froyo 2.2 update for that... I'm not going to chance messing up my phone by rooting for now.....

.... will I be able to update my rooted phone?

Yeah, I'm curious to know as well. I rooted my phone last week, and when the 2.2 Froyo eventually becomes available for the Galaxy S Vibrant next month (or so Bell says) , what will it do to my phone, my rooted apps, etc.

My phone actually had the Wi-Fi tethering already working on 2.1 OS. The model of my phone is GT-I9000M. Maybe Bell has a different version of the Galaxy than T-Mobile?

from my understanding yes you can update to 2.2 if your phone is rooted.

it may well remove your root access but this is easy enough to enable.

as for wifi tethering the official 2.2 will allow for tethering, i'm not surprised some of the 2.2 leaked firmwares dont allow tethering seeing as they are not finalised releases.
