Just baught HTC Hero: HELP

Hello, this is my first post on this forum and i'm excited to become a member.

I baught the HTC Hero from a Sprint store a day or two ago and i have a few questions.

1) WTF. I thought android was supposed to be excellent? It is so slow, glitchy, and laggy. It looks better than my Blackberry, but performes 1/2 as good as the BB. This is my main concern.

2) When i go to text someone, i out-type the keyboard with ease which causes even more delay and feels super laggy.

if these problems could be fixed, i'd love this phone.

What version of Android are you running? You might still be on 1.5 or 1.6. Try updating to 2.1 if this is the case.

Unfortunately, that is a problem with 2.1 on the Hero. I stayed with 1.6 and don't have any of the lag issues (ok, occasionally it responds slowly, but very rarely). I keep checking here to see if there have been any updates to fix this in 2.1, but unfortunately, HTC/Sprint are in denial.
I would take the phone back and complain to Sprint. If they can give you one with 1.6 I think you will be happy (I love mine!). Maybe if enough new Hero customers take phones back HTC will get the message.
Even my wife's EVO occasionally has problems with answering/hanging up calls when the Lag issue arises in 2.1 on HTC phones. I am hoping that moving the EVO to 2.2 will fix this issue. Again, unfortunately, HTC seems to have stopped any work on the Hero and 2.2 will not be available for it (from them).
If you want to get depressed, go read the sticky about 2.1 problems on the Hero. The only solution you will see is to root the phone. That is like buying an old analog phone, taking it apart and changing the bell to get it to work, IMO. (an I started my professional career as a tel com design engineer!).

i am running 2.1. In the task manager, i close everything but htc sense, and other system required processes and it is still so slow.

Killing tasks will mostly just slow the phone down more, uninstall your task killer as they are almost completely unnecessary. I have system panel, it can kill apps when needed but more importantly shows how much memory and CPU each app is using.

They are rarely needed. I recommend using System Panel because it shows how much cpu each open app is using, not because I think it has the best kill all feature. In the extremely rare event that you have an app that is sucking cpu instead of going dormant like they are supposed to, you'll need an app like this to pinpoint it, and yes, kill it if need be. Any app that you need to kill should be uninstalled, period.
