Root SetCPU profiles?

Anyone using SetCPU to enforce underclocking profiles with their X? I'm concerned about how hot the X gets when it's charging in the car dock and using Navigation. Would downclocking the cpu to 800MHz or 600MHz when the battery is above a certain temp (45C or so) make a difference? Has anyone noticed any battery gains from using other profiles?

Not a bad idea! I'm going to give it a try (the Navagation part) as I am going on a trip tomorrow. :)

My profile is as follows:
Temp > 40.0 C: 300mhz max, priority 100
Charging/Full: 1000mhz max, priority 54
Screen Off: 300mhz max, priority 52
Battery < 40%: 800mhz max, priority 50
Battery < 20%: 600mhz max, priority 50

Pretty good gains with these settings too.
SOMETIMES when I wake up my phone, the lock screen is a tiny big laggy for a little bit, but usually its not noticeable and is acceptable, considering my cpu is locked at 300mhz, saving me tons of battery.

I use my X for navigation in the Moto car dock. When it's docking and navigating, and charging, it gets over 40C very quickly. I'm uncertain if 300MHz is enough power to navigate, stream music over bluetooth, make calls, etc. Have you tried this profile in this scenario?

Also, your screen off max is 300MHz. How's performance? Does unlocking to answer a call lag? Do background tasks take forever?

I changed my profiles yesterday to :
1:Temp> 50C, priority 100, 300 max
2:Charging/full, priority 98, 1000 max
3:Battery<30%, priority 60, 600 max
4:Battery<40%, priority 40, 800 max
5:Screen off, priority 90, 300 max

Did not notice any lag unlocking phone, or answering call ( CPU goes back to high speed instantly, plus when you're receiving call screen is ON). However, with low battery and running 300 max phone is useless. I wasn't able even scroll trough home screens, so I changed it to 600. Still slow, but can use phone for other purposes than paperweight :)

I just rooted..underclocking is my next priority... I have:

titanium backup (which I haven't used as yet)
Wireless Tether
auto killer
AD FREE!!!! :) :) :)

Edit: I considered the both of your profiles for guidance, so here are mine (thanks, btw):

Temp > 49.8 C: 300mhz max, priority 100
Charging/Full: 1000mhz max, priority 98
Screen Off: 300mhz max, priority 92
Battery < 40%: 800mhz max, priority 50
Battery < 25%: 600mhz max, priority 65

I love being able to do this! :)

Why even worry about it?

I'm pretty sure the case is part of the cooling system and is used to dissipate heat. So if it's getting warm or hot it's doing it's job.

IMO if it's not failing I wouldn't worry about it.

I am curious, what is the point of having a max of 1000 on charging/full? Why not just set your main profile to the max of 1000 (which I assume it is already)? It will use the main profile until one of the custom profiles parameters are met---until then, it will just run off the default profile settings, right?

It just seems that when you are charging, you may want a profile that underclocks (and not clocks at stock speed) a little bit so the phone doesn't get as hot because I don't understand the reasoning behind a charging profile of max 1000, unless the minimum was set at 600 or higher....

I'm curious as to why use it at all unless you're overclocking? the CPU automatically adjust to work load as is. It would seem to me if you set it to a certain value it could actually prevent the cpu from idling lower and thus costing battery power instead of saving any.

what am I missing?

I think you can set it to go lower....I am not sure. Also, I know with setcpu, the instant my screen goes off, the CPU goes down to 300. I am not sure if it takes 15 minutes without CPU, but I like knowing for sure.

Does the CPU adjust its workload when below certain battery levels like we can set up with setcpu? Or different temps? I haven't seen any evidence of that, unless I blatantly missed that in the article that was posted in this thread.

Well that's my point you/we don't know, for all you or I know it could go to 100 when you turn the screen off but now you have it stuck at 300

Well the battery might be a good reason but the temp??? to me if the battery is hot it's because it's working hard suppling juice to the CPU. If you under clock it for that reason you are just crippling it's ability to do that work. I could see it if you set it for really high temps just in case it's about to blow:eek: but other than that I'd question it's use for that reason also.

I love setcpu. 12 hours and that wasn't even a full charge.
