Hey all,
I'm sorry for being a newbie with all this root stuff, but I've been searching and haven't been able to find a "set" guideline on what to do with my just-rooted Eris. So I've gotten my phone rooted with the DUMMIES phone-only guide and rom'ed with Evil Eris 4.0, but I don't know what exact measures to take from there to install Engtools, OC, flash new roms, etc. I just want to be careful with everything in order to have the best possible root experience D: Basically, I don't know what "pushing" is and how it's done. I think the first thing I want to do is install Engtools, following this:

http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-eris/121597-how-install-engineering-bootloader.html

But, is amon's recovery already installed from the dummies phone-only root? Do I just vol-up+power-on when the phone is off to start it up? After that, what do I do with the codes? How do I push?

Also, after pushing all these files and getting Engtools installed, do I start OC'ing and whatnot? What do people normally do after rooting for performance improvements and other handy-dandy things?

Finally, how do I switch to a different ROM? Do I have to undo one ROM first?

Thanks a lot in advance...for bearing with my idiocy.

You do not need to flash engtools. That is only for people who want to root without using a custom ROM. Your using EE4, so you are all set. And yes, you have Amon's recovery after doing the dummies guide. At this point, yes you can overclock beyond whatever EE4 is set for (if you wish). To do this, you need to either purchase SetCPU from the market, or sign up on the XDA forums and download it for free from there. There are a few guides for using SetCPU around here, so I'll try to find one and give you a link.

To switch ROMs, you just need to flash the new one you want to use. You need to boot into recovery to do the flash. Do this by shutting the phone down. Then do Volume Up + Power. This puts you into the recovery partition. If you don't get into recovery, then shut down, and do Volume Down + Power, then choose "recovery" from the menu. You then would wipe factory and wipe dalvik, then flash the new ROM. You should always make a nand backup before wiping and flashing a new rom by the way. If something goes bad, or you don't like the new rom, you can revert back by restoring a nand.

I'm not picking on you so please take this for what it is. You really need to do some reading about what you want to accomplish. You're picking up bits and pieces from what it looks like but you're not seeing the whole picture. If you have already flashed Evil Eris 4.0 then you don't need to flash Engtoos and you already have OC. Flashing ROMs is just like the final step in root for dummies. You download your ROM of choice and flash by rebooting into recovery. Read about the ROM you want to install because it will let you know what features it has plus any bugs/fixes, if any, that the ROM has.

Yes

After that, what do I do with the codes? How do I push?
Download your ROM of choice first then flash via recovery just like the final step in root for dummies thread.

Also, after pushing all these files and getting Engtools installed, do I start OC'ing and whatnot? What do people normally do after rooting for performance improvements and other handy-dandy things?
Take a look at the thread for best root apps and as stated above Engtools is not needed when flashing ROMs it is only used for getting superuser access on the stock rom. OC is already included in most if not all ROMs that you're likely to flash.

Finally, how do I switch to a different ROM? Do I have to undo one ROM first?
Already answered

Thanks all.

Another question I have now is, how should I set profile priority percentages in SetCPU? I've gotten my main to 245/768 in case it matters

I have my failsafe ("Temp > X") profile set to 100 so that it trumps any other profile. After that, I have my sleep/standby somewhere in the 70s and I have a battery<20% profile around 50 or something like that.
