I came from a blackberry storm and that phone could last all day, bit coming to this phone I've had awful battery life. I use 10% every hour and I have task killer and the manager set to battery saver. I use the power bar widget and have every thing off and screen brightness to the lowest, yet 67% of my usage is the display. Is this battery defective?

How long have you had the phone? I got mine on 7/15 and after 2 weeks I can tell you that the battery life increases dramatically. I also thought the battery life was dreadful when I first got it, but right now it is great! I do keep the screen brightness low indoors, and bluetooth and gps off except when I need them.

I got my phone on launch day. I don't think I have agps program that pings any signal. My time without signal does not show up when I click idle, but ive ben at work this while time and I have full service indoor. The only other thing I can think of is I played with the droid on launch day and the phone fully died, as in it had 0% battery left, then I charged it fully.

dial *#*#4636#*#* (seriously, lol)
click "battery history"
what percentage does it show for "running"?

Now touch "other usage"
select "partial wake usage"
Any of the items have a large amount of blue bar on it?

If your "running" percentage is really high and/or you have a large blue bar in "partial wake usage" something is keeping your phone from going to idle/sleep mode....which will destroy your battery life.

It does sound like your battery life should be better, but...

1. Do you spend much time in areas where the phone only gets 1x signal? It seems to me that my battery life goes down quite a bit when the phone spends time in 1x mode rather than 3g.

2. What apps are you running? I would love to see a battery topic here where people rate the battery life and list the apps that are installed on their phone. Good or bad, it would help overall in knowing what apps are battery killers.

My battery life started off bad... 5 hours on a full charge with little to no use. Then I would let my battery dye then let it charge all night while its off. Used the battery left widget and let it calibrate for about two days. After a week the widget says 13 hours of full battery life but yesterday I got 16 hours with moderate use. Heavy use I get about 10 to 12 hours. Good enough for me.

Your screen using 67% of your battery does not mean that your screen brightness is responsible for 67% loss of battery, It just means that your screen is contributing 67% of all other things running toward battery draining. Mine usually runs in the low 90%, In a perfect world when the phone is on and nothing else is being used the screen should be 100% of what is draining the battery, because that is technically the only thing "on" ( i hope that made some sense )

If your screen is only 67% of your battery usage, then what else do you have "on", running, etc that is also draining? Just my 2 cents, but 25% battery use of GPS searching sounds like it will do a lot more damage than 95% of screen brightness.

FYI - I have had GPS turned on for the last week and have found no noticeable difference in battery use from the previous week. I have not used many apps that use much GPS, but it appears that having it turned on doesn't have a big negative impact. I plan to try the same with Wi-fi to see how leaving it on effects battery life. I suspect that it will be more since it will be searching constantly.

I'm not on my phone that much either and have very poor battery life... it is almost dead after 8 or 9 hours with maybe 10 minutes of talk time and 20 minutes of Internet time. I have it in battery saver mode too. I have as much shut down as possible (need voice command, contacts, calendar, etc)

What do you mean by "used the battery widget"? I can't find that on my phone but it is only a couple of weeks old and I am sure I don't know half of what I need to know.

What do you consider moderate and heavy use?

Thank you,
Cindy

Battery Left Widget is a free app in the market place it measures your battery life and lets u know how long it will last. It takes about 2 days to fully calibrate. Let ur phone drain down till it dies and shuts off by itself. This should have done when u first got ur phone. If you already had your phone for a couple of weeks then u might want to get a replacement. U may be able to still train ur battery so cycle it to a full charge to completly dead about 3 to 4 times in a row. Moderate use 4 me is checking email, a good bit of text, checking and commenting on the facebook widget, some talking. Heavy use is everything in moderate plus watching youtube, taking pics and vids, more texting, surfing the net, downloading new apps, playing with the radio, stuff like that. Some might say that these new batteries dont need training but it worked for me so to each its own.

One obvious, and sometimes forgotten, factor to think about for the improved performance we see now versus when we first got the phone is this:
We all played with it non-stop when we first got it so we could learn what's what, download apps, customize it, show it off, etc...now that it's been "broken in" and made yours, it's probably not on as much as it was the first several days. I know that's the case for me, but I still think my battery life could be better.

My history shows 100% for everything - running, screen on, wifi on, wifi running, and bluetooth on. What's up with that? I'm having to charge a few times a day.

While you are doing all the above, check the Battery Voltage, several battery apps do this. Make sure it's between 4-ish and 3-ish, anything over 5 is a bad battery and you should be able to get a replacement at the store. I had this happen to my first 2 batteries, my third is holding steady and my battery life is now all day.
