I would guess no since it is being distributed by Verizon. You could always just root it and install a custom 2.2 rom.

No you wont but you can always force the update. The method for doing this will be posted as soon as we have a copy of the update.zip

You don't really have to do anything. When VZW decides to send it, you'll get a notice that there's a system update for the phone (not the market, mind you) and you'll have the option to download it then. Otherwise, it will download it the next time you reboot.

When VZW starts sending it out, someone here will post that they have it and let people copy the update.zip so that you won't have to wait for Verizon to send it to you as they seem to do it 10000 phones at a time or so. The update was out for 4 days before it came to me. I am curious to see where I will be in the queue this time.
