Hi guys,
Been a Lurker for a bit but need your help on a subject.

Have rooted my Desire using Lekky's guide and partitioned my SD card for proper ap2sd.

Then i installed [ROM-FroYo AOSP] OpenDesire v2.3a (WIFI SLEEP FIXED! | 2.6.34.1 KERNEL) (25/07) - xda-developers

I believe this has the proper Ap2sd That will make use of the partition i set up.

My problem is that i have had my desire issuing me a warning that i am running out of space.

Question how can i tell if i have done this right, and if so where on the sd card are the apps now stored?

Yeah am meaning Apps2SD+.
I did perform a partition using rom manager with 512mb ext and 0 swap.
I then installed the new radio and then the Rom i linked too.

Am showing 18mb space left on internal storage.

Tried removing a installed app and then reinstalling but used space was same after the experiment.

This leads me to believe that the partition is not set up properly and it is this that i think i need to check, but dont know how.

Any advice gracefully received.

Thank you very much for your help guys.

With a little free time today i decided to try a different approach and follow instructions on a rom i found, that suggested restoring factory settings then wiping the partitions befor installation of rom.

Tried all that out and now have 138mb free space where once there was 18, so everything seems to be working well now.

To guys having problems, follow what i did and boot up into restore, and wipe factory setting cache and dev. then wipe the partitions and try reinstalling the ROM.

There is an app called mod install location, that can be set up to automatically install apps to sd card

Your not just a pretty face are you!! :p

Out of interest mate, are the apps safe on the SD card? Do i still need my ext3 partition? this app is very good tbh, you move your apps through settings>apps>manage and where all the apps used to be shaded out, they are now able to move onto SD card!

I love you!!!! :p

So how does this work then? cos i had 85 MB free memory, i have i just put all the apps onto the SD card with this mod install location, just checked my memory and its still the same?

You will find as you have apps2sd+ & the ext3 partition the apps are already on your sd card.
Mod install location doesn't require you to have a partition but does almost the same thing.
Best way to describe it is its like having a version of apps2sd that sits between the froyo implementation & apps2sd+
I like it myself because its easier to use than formatting & renaming the ext

yeah i know how it works mate, but i have just moved a load of apps to SD card with mod install location but none of the memory has gone back on to my internal, for example Google earth 22 MB once moved to SD card it says 16 MB so obviously the 6 MB that has gone to the SD card should go back to the internal memory shouldn't it?

It would do normally but as you already got apps2sd+ the apps are already stored on the ext3 partition, you will probably find mod install location is duplicating you apps on the fat32 side of the card.

so where has the memory gone that i have saved on just google earth alone? i know what you mean about already having ext3 partition, so would it be better if i didnt have the ext3 part..... im confused, are they OK running side by side? and am i able to view where they are on my SD card or is it hidden like the ext3?

cheers mate

I think they are installed in android secure.
You don't need both, i got a rom with apps2sd+ but i am not partitioning & carrying on with mod install location

i will see if i can find something to remove the partition properly.
Follow the guide you don't even need to install anything, just back up your card to pc first as you will have to format.

Just one of the ways the sd cards can play up, formatting clears most problems though.

i don't think i've managed to read a single one of your messages without something going wrong for you lol :p

I think it could be where he is trying all the different roms to see which one he prefers.
I will probably be in a similar situation myself soon, nothing major though just save your card contents to pc then format the card.
you are right mate, i have tried every rom within the last 3 days, and i think im now a flash addict!! **** me, im a flasher!!! im just downloading ۵.NeoPhyTe ROM v1.5c Sense-FroYo

neophyte has just released 1.6 & next sense which i switched to has released 2 updates in one day & is now on version 3.0.
Guess flashing is rather addictive, we will be a forum of flashers. lol.
:eek::eek:

I was actually going to start a new thread (maybe still should) regarding flashing, this is the question i have..... Can too much flashing your device do any long term damage to it? i thought you might have known mate? maybe it should have its own thread if there is a danger?

Obviously lots of flashing can have an effect, its like all flash memory has a finite number of times that it can be written to.
Normally in the region of 4 figures, prob find the rest of the phone will wear out first.
