Pressing Home opens Navigator App!?!?! WTH?

Hey AndroidForums,

So, Here I am tonight at a party and a good friend asked to use my phone for the music I've got on it (16g class 4 SDHC updated twice a week :D). I after a long conversation of "If you break my sh-- I will have to kick someone's butt." I gave it to her and she plugged it in.

Long story short, somehow it was knocked off the table and into a puddle of what I will, for lack of a better word, call fluid . I assume it was beer but still am unsure. (Gross, I know!!)

Now, I've dried it out using the "Rice Trick" and leaving it on top of the heater vent, put the battery back in turned it back on and the screen was totally un-responsive.

I tried a battery pull to see if that would fix it, but to no avail, it was still un-responsive. I then tried the factory reset (Home+Back+Tap Power>Clear>Reset).

Now when the phone boots up and everything loads, Navigator will load and start up all on it's own and when I press the Home button Navigator starts up again. WTF?!

Tried the factory Reset again and the same problem.

I was going to just re load the 2.27.651.5 from sprint (I never deleted it from my PC when it first dropped ) but when I connected my Hero to my PC it wouldn't detect the Hero, It would charge, but not Mount/Sync/Share.

UUgh, so frustrated right now.

Thanks in advance guys!

Sorry to hear what happened, try simply clicking on the file on your PC with your phone connected and see what happens, if it does not load, I am not sure I would want to keep the phone anyways as you will most likely have more issues down the road, and will always blame it on the incident, LOL so if you are still stock on the phone, call Sprint CS, and tell them your phone is non responsive, you have tried everything but the phone does not work properly, leave out the beer issue, LOL and if it is still under the one year warranty, they will replace your phone, good luck

Well, actually, the warranty DOES NOT cover fluid damage. That aside, there have been several posters that have reported fluid issues, and many have had complete success with proper drying out procedures. It takes time...often a week or so.

I would recommend that the OP do a search of the forums here to find the threads that discusss, in detail, those procedures.

You could just take out the SD card and put it into your computer and copy over the file. You will need a card reader. Your printer might have one if the pc does not.

I never said it did, I simply said not to say it got wet and move from there, I, you could not tell they got wet
have had 2 friends with similar issues and they had there phone replaced with no issues

I think it depends on the tech working on the phone. If they see that it got wet, they may or may not say anything.

Forget the tech, call CS tell them the issues and they will send you a phone, if they ever came back to you afterwards and say your phone was wet deny it period

Thank you everyone for your reply.

So, no one really knows what could have caused this whole home button taking me to navigator app thing?

I actually Google-d all of the proper "Drying methods" and followed them already.

So Don, if I call CS and get them to send me a New/Referb hero, I will have to send the old one back and wont the tech on the other end see the red stickers?

Like I said just say you never got it wet period, they will not contact you, they sent me 3 phones already and sent me a new battery with one and the other had new cables and I never sent them back, just the phones went back, tell then if they ever contact you that maybe the tech maybe got it wet but not you

you have to send the broken one back .. if you dont want to be charged. Normal Warranty does not cover water! They will charge U.

if you have insurance... water is covered. but you will have a $100 deductible! Does not sound worth it for the Hero!
If you have an upgrade coming.. you might want to look at getting a new/different phone.
