I recently purchased my Hero (5 weeks ago) online from Sprint. Cost with a $150 upgrade credit 79.99. My wife now has a $150 upgrade credit and the purchase price online is 149.99. What's the deal? Why the spike in just 5 weeks? It's no secret there will be no more updates (2.2) the Hero is legacey equipment but we're expected to run unsupported out of the box for a two year contract on a price that's almost 2x what it was a few weeks back? What's Sprint doing?

The EVO is only $50 more dollars, so sure I could order that, but it's not what my wife wants or needs. This is lame. Any ideas on why they jacked the price? Maybe to push EVO sales? It doesn't seem right. Anyone else experience this and talk to Sprint about it?

nothing official but I'd assume it's to boost sales of the evo and that new Samsung thing (moment 2).

If it was to boost the sales of the EVO then the price would of stayed $79, same happened with the LG phone I bought for my wife, I got it for her at $29 and then 6 weeks later it was back up to $99, think they just promo phones from time to time to make sales, and here is the kicker, when I bought my wife phone, they also sent me a rebate coupon for $50 so they actually in the long run paid me to buy her phone, LOL

When I bought my Hero, it was $149.99 at the Sprint Store, but $79.99 at Sprint online. FYI, it's $99.99 at Best Buy right now.

Just picked mine up Monday at the Sprint store. $100 bill (+tax) after mail-in rebate. The salesman even filled out the rebate form, bundled it with a extra printout of receipt, stuffed it in a pre-addressed envelope, stamped it and even volunteered to mail it. I went ahead and handled that part... it was the very least I could do

I originally got my Hero for $70 from the Dell online mobile store with a new contract. Obviously that was a great price, and it makes me cringe to think back on the phones I paid $200+ for. Based though on the phones currently out there, and as you know, the lack of future OS updates (other than ones provided by individuals that likely aren't making a dime in most cases), it wouldn't surprise me that within another android update or 2, we would start to see fewer and fewer apps even being supported...i can't really see any justification in paying more than $100 for this phone.
