Root i need help ASAP. rooting problem.

So I'm not exactly sure if I'm posting in the correct area but this is related to rooting.

Earlier today I bought the app "easy root". Its basicly one click rooting. And it was successful. So I downloaded ROM manager I believe it was and though id but one of the free ROMs they were offering. So I downloaded this rom and installed and I rebooted my phone, it did the whole install scene for about 10 minutes. So I'm guessing everything was successful.

Now when the phone turned on to home page, all my contacts, apps, and texts were gone. It was basicly back to how it was when I firsr bought this phone.
I kind of paniced, and the thing is none of the apps worked, including market and maps. All that works is broweser. So I thought id come here and ask for your help.

So what I did after that is did factory reset from settings, that didn't do anything. So I did the whole "press x while booting up phone".

I did the whole delete cache and delete data, it did its whole thing and rebooted. But still everything is gone and won't let me run anything. And it won't let me login to my gmail account either.

So I'm sorry for posting this, but I need help really badly and I don't know where else to turn.

By the way, I have Motorola Droid with android 2.1 . If that helps.

Okay, a couple things to note here.

- If you didn't make a backup before you installed the ROM, then your previous call logs, text messages and such are gone. That partition has been wiped and you can't get it back. Your apps - if not restoring automatically - will have to be reinstalled manually.

- I'm not familiar with that easy root program, so I can't really comment on it, but I don't think it's possible for an app like that to give you root access properly from 2.1 without first flashing the phone back to 2.0.1 (which is what the standard root procedure does).

- If ROM Manager installed and worked, then technically you should be rooted. When you reboot into recovery, do you know which recovery you're using? Is it Clockwork recovery flashed from ROM Manager, or is it the stock recovery? You'll know by checking the recovery main menu. If "Nandroid" is an option, you have a custom recovery. If not, you're on stock.

- Your best bet is to root the standard way. Yes, it's a bit more complicated than using a one button application, but will give you proper, working root as well as a custom recovery which you can then install a ROM over. We'll be able to help you better after that if you have any problems because we'll have a better idea where you stand.

Check the "Guide to all things root related" thread in this forum and follow the RSD Lite method section that tells you how to root. There are a lot of steps, but if you follow the directions carefully, you should not run into any problems.

It sounds to me like you didn't download the Google Apps add-on. Did you have to click the green android image at the beginning of your first boot?

Well here's what's going on right now,
I can not run market. If force closes on me in 2 seconds. None of the apps actually work.
And it was the google add ons, that was the rom I was installing. When I installed it , it did go to the green android guy. To set up my phone. And it wouldn't let me sign in to my gmail account. That's when I figured everything went wrong. So I just did the "skip login" option, went to home page and EVERYTHING. Was restored. And none of the apps worked.

And on my recovery page, I don't have the option to run back up/recovery. I guess I deleted that when I ran factory reet from settings. And I had clockwork.

Ok. I would definitely re-root from scratch using the RSD Lite method then. It's just easier to give you assistance if you do it that way because we'll know that you have a clean, working root.

Ok, where can I get instructions on that, and can I do it all through my phone? My pc doesn't have internet. I am able to move files around through my pc but all download and such has to be done through my droid. Is that possible?

Another thing, is there a way I can fix the force close on all apps problem?
And it won't let me login to my gmail account, any ideas why its like that?

If you are having force close issues on most of your apps, try running the "Fix Permissions" from within ROM Manager. That should fix a ot of them. Might help some of your other issues too.

Actually, all my apps are gone. Including ROM manager.

All of your apps being gone is normal from what I can tell of your description. You have loaded a custom ROM and wiped everything clean. You will not be able to recover any of that most likely, depending.**EDIT**You would need to reinstall those apps instead**EDIT**

In ROM Manager when you chose to install the new rom did it ask you to make a backup? If so, did you do it? If you did, then good news you're stuff might be recoverable, if not, then its all gone for good. If you created a backup boot into recovery (Turn droid off, hold down x followed by power button, when u see the M let go of power but keep holding x) When it gets to recovery go to nandroid, restore, select the backup. (You navigate by the d-pad; tap power button to go back a screen)
---This is assuming Clockwork recovery is installed

If you did not make a backup, its a bit trickier spot. Do you have the market and just cannot access it? If so what does it tell you?

Is clockwork or SP installed? If so then just download a new ROM, wipe data/cache and load up fresh

If you didn't make a backup and you do not have the market, or clockwork or sprecovery, you'll want to go here: http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-droid/136508-guide-all-things-root-related.html and follow the instructions to 'Revert back to Stock 2.0, 2.0.1, 2.1.
To do this you will need a computer, usb cable, some patience and need to read everything carefully. This is also where you will want to go to learn about manually rooting, flashing, recovering, backing up, etc, etc; which is why it is called All Things Root Related
