Sim card notification

Hi, I'm new to these forums and new to HTC. I've always been a Nokia fan but S60 is falling just too far behind for me in 2009. I sold my Nokia E71 and bought a Malaysian Hero (they're not available in NZ) and flashed a rooted generic firmware onto it. Very happy with the phone overall.

I have a question though, I'm getting a sim card notification on the top bar thing and a blank notification entry in the pull down list. Clicking it doesn't do anything. The manual doesn't say what this means and I've found another person on XDA-Developers with the same thing. They are with the same carrier as me, Vodafone NZ.

Here's a screenshot:

Any ideas?

Edit: Forgot to mention, it comes and goes. Every now and again I see it has disappeared, but it doesn't stay away for long.

Yeah it was unlocked, worked fine on the stock Malay firmware but still showed this icon. Seems to work fine now too as far as I can tell. I expected it would go away on the rooted generic firmware but it's still there, so I'm guessing it's something to do with my sim, I would like to know what it wants to say...

I rooted it partly on principal, partly for fun and partly for function (wifi tether etc).

I figured it out, there is a system application on my phone called Sim Toolkit, I've talked with other Nexus One owners who don't have this application. I have root access on my phone so I used titanium backup to uninstall it and now the notification is gone! :) so far no side effects :p

I'm on the same network as OP (Vodafone NZ) so I imagine it has something to do with their sim cards having this software bundled with them somehow?

Interesting, I also have the SIM toolkit (I think all GSM phones do) but I never saw this icon. Perhaps something to do with that Carrier.

I have posted a fix to remove the SIM Card/Clog notification (which appears to be related to Vodafone NZ only SIM cards) from the top task bar of your Android phone (non rooted) refer to link below:

Sim card notification icon in android phone - Vodafone Forum

This has been successfully used on HTC Desire, and HTC Desire HD..
If you need one for a rooted Andriod post a request.
