Froyo update BRICKED my EVO

My turn came up in the OTA updating to Froyo on my Evo and I was totally psyched. I went through the standard steps of downloading, installing, etc. It seemed to be fine once the final restart happened. Was running what I felt was smoother and I was loving the landscape option for holding it either way but in the midst of checking my email, the screen shut off. I just thought I hit the power button by mistake but it wouldn't turn on. So figuring it was out of juice (a likely thing to happen considering amount of use it gets) I plugged it in and I got the blinking orange light rather than the charging light and it still wouldn't turn on. So in a last ditch effort (sfter scouring the internet for answers) I unplugged and took the battery out waited a few minutes and reassembled the phone. Still nothing...

Now as a note, I haven't installed anything unofficial nor have I rooted my phone so I know this wouldn't be an issue. I did heed the warnings on the previous update in June and kept putting it off, eventually hearing about the Froyo update and figured I do that one. So here I am with my paperweight and I'll be heading to the Sprint store this afternoon (already called and said no problem they'll fix or replace it). Just a warning to others that it has happened but doesn't seem to be common.

Good luck to all you other Evo owners.

If the light is blinking, it sounds like you are having an issue with the hardware related to battery function. If it were a software/Froyo issue you would likely be able to start your phone and then get stuck in bootloop. Sorry about that man. Call up Sprint advanced tech support and ask them what the blinking light means.

I kind of thought it might be hardware related, but once I took the battery out and put it back in, I wouldn't even get a blinking light when I tried to charge. It's just a silent dark sad paper weight. Still love it though. I can't wait to get it back in working order and find out what the cause was. Hopefully it was just a flook and it'll be nothing to do with Froyo because the updates seemed awesome. Thanks for the quick reply.

Wait, it is unclear... will your phone start up at all IF you both put your battery back in AND keep your phone plugged into an AC charger?

Can you boot into the bootloader/recovery either? Hold down the Volume Up button and Power button to do this.

It's actually really really difficult to truly brick the Evo... and you can unbrick it yourself most likely. But to do so will take some advanced research on your part (spend some time over at XDA), but it can be done.

Battery in, plugged in, and nothing. Tried bootloader button combo still nothing. Working on checking possible causes and looking around at XDA (thanks for the suggestion, hadn't been there yet) but if I can't come up with a solution in the next hour and a half, it'll be up to Sprint at that point.

Oops... Sorry about that.

Lol, I was sitting here reading this thread again when BAM, my phone hits the 'Low Battery Warning' and the orange light starts to blink.

In other words...
You had the blinking light because you had a low battery. This means one of three things:
1- Your battery is a dud and can no longer charge.
2- Something is wrong with the hardware of your phone, and it can no longer charge your battery.

or....
3- Your charging cable is bad/shorted out... Try plugging in your phone with a different micro USB cable. I'm willing to bet that this is the problem. ;)
Good news- If you establish that this is in fact the problem, it's an easy and cheap fix (depending on where you get a replacement)

I hope you get this message before you try to return your phone!

Tested the cable on another phone and worked fine, however, for some unknown reason, it actually wasn't charging my Evo. So problem solved. Thanks for the help from all of you. I don't know if they can delete posts or make them in active but I'll try to have that done here since I'd hate to tarnish the Evo's and Android's good name by leaving up a post about a non-bricked phone stating it was bricked. Thanks again.
