Root Is Simple Root the way to go?

Sorry, I normally try to avoid these kind of dumb questions. Normally I would wait a few days and read up a little more, but I feel rushed with the whole 2.2 update breathing down my neck.

I got my Evo today, and would like to root so I can flash a rooted 2.2 ROM.

I have been reading about the different ways to root the Evo (unrEVOked vs Simple Root), and have determined that unrEVOked is a no go. Simple root sounds amazingly easy. But I have read about people saying it didnt work for them after the OTA update (1.47.651.1). Was that before the new Simple Root update?

Here's the site I'm looking at and I'm downloading the program now... I just wanted to make sure Simple Root would work for me.

http://myevo4g.net/simple/

TIA

Right. I'm still on 2.1.1.

I watched the video but can't tell what zip he applies in recovery. is it the pc36img.zip?? So i just need to have that on the root of my sd and I'm good right?

I have heard that recovery can't find it on a 16gb sd, right? Should I use the 8gb it came with?

I used a 8gb card... the application copies everything you need to your sdcard if you follow the video so you don't need to copy anything yourself. IIRC that part is done automatically since when you boot into the bootloader, it automatically looks for the file. If you follow the prompt window it'll basically tell you what to do

Simpleroot for 2.1 is now two button clicks instead of four:

[Program] Updated: 1 Click SimpleRoot OTA 1.47.651.1 Edition - xda-developers

You can root with unrevoked3, but your phone isn't fully jailbroken until you unlock NAND, which Simpleroot does and unrevoked does not. A lot of people like unrevoked because it doesn't require you to factory-reset your phone, but if you just got your phone, you're prolly close to factory state anyway. Do the full jailbreak (Simpleroot) and be done with it for good.
