Is there any way to set either a folder on my Dinc as a shared drive or see a shared folder from my Dinc.

A lot of times I like to transfer videos or pictures from my Dinc to my laptop or move an apk from my laptop to my sdcard and I hate having to dig out a cable to make the transfer. would be nice if I could move files just through wifi. I'm not really digging Dropbox either. Don't like to have my personal files floating around on another server.

Go to the market and Download "Estrong file explorer" I love this app! You can transfer files wirelessly from your computer to your Dinc and back. I use it constantly and it transfers full length movies very fast! I use it with my my home network via WiFi, but I think it works with Bluetooth also.

I haven't plugged my phone into my computer since I got it.

Thanks, Estrong works. Could not get it to connect to my Win7 laptop but I just setup my XP gaming machine/file server with a new shared folder and it works great. Not ideal but its faster than finding a cable.

It sees the "public" folders on my Win 7 laptop just fine. I did have to make sure the "password protected sharing" was turned off in my "network and sharing" center, on the laptop.

Yeah I don't have public folders on mine anymore. I also have it locked down tightly due to being on a work domain. I can share the folders but it won't let me log in from the Dinc. Works fine with other windows machines though.

Just to let everyone know, Estrong is a crazy battery hog and runs in the background. I hit the home button when I was done testing it and in 1.5 hours it sucked up 35% of my battery. Always hit menu and exit out of the program, don't just leave it in the background.

Oh, and it does not show up in any task killer so you cant kill it that way.

I've been using it since May and have never had that problem, my battery last as long as it ever did even before Estrong. I don't understand why you're having that problem.

Not sure but its not that big of a deal. I don't plan on using it much and I just have to remember to exit when I'm done. Still does just what I need so thanks again for the tip ;)

can anyone loan any help with using estrong on my wifi network to communicate with my mac? I downloaded it and LOVE the interface much better than Astro, but can't figure out how to set up to share wirelessly.

Thanks!

I'm on a Mac as well so I'll d/l it this evening and see if I can get it working. If I do then I'll reply with the info here! :)

(go figure the software is made in china...probably code in there to report back keystrokes and crap)

I don't own a mac, but if there is an option to "allow public sharing" you need to turn that on. Then go into Estrong file explorer and go to the menu button and press "show tabs" that will put the "local" and "LAN" and "FTP" tabs at the top. The press the "LAN" tab, and once there, hit the little "Magnifying glass" below the tabs. This is the "search" button and it will search the WiFi network the phone is currently connected to for shared computers and folders.

The first time you do it, it takes a few minutes to complete. After that, it's just a matter of tapping on the shared folders it finds to open them and from there, copy and paste is easy.

I hope this helps!

Got it!! Sooooo excited now! This makes life so much easier than having to plug and unplug all of the time. Do u like it better than Astro? Astro's what I've been using but it seems so "all over the place." I get a headache everytime I open it! So if I can stick with Estrong for my needs, I'll be a happy camper. Also, is the file sharing, two way? Meaning, if i have something on my Inc, can I copy and paste it to a folder on my Mac from the phone??

I personally use it exclusively for my files, and folders, I also have Astro but seldom if ever use it.

Yes, the sharing is both ways. I move full length movies to my phone from my PC using Estrong, and since my WiFi is very fast, they move over quickly. I also move all my videos and pictures from my phone to my computer the same way.

Are you connecting OK now?

I assume that on a MAC as on a Windows system, only "public folders" are shared, so if someone was to hack into your WiFi network, which is very difficult with encryption, all anyone could then see is the "public folders" so just don't keep anything sensitive in them.

izzy35: Glad you got it working ok. I downloaded it and mucked about (I have my Apple firewall very restrictive so I had to open it up for the time being) After that all was good. I like the ability to transfer wifi but I still think Astro is faster and a better overall app just missing the WIFI transfer. My op though I know there are others here who have a completely different view. :)

Astro gives me a headache when I open it~~LOL! I just don't like the interface AT ALL! Ya know, I read somewhere on here that Astro does some kind of wifi transfer now, you just have download an additional app. If you like it that much, you should look into it. Not sure the name of it though...sorry :(
