Lets take Rogue Apps...

I thought it'd be beneficial, since most of us wish to have more battery life, to list some rogue apps that we are having problems with. I think that if we compare our results we can figure out what apps are poorly coded and which apps to stay away from...

The app that I have the most problems with is Skype. I don't use it...I have 2 phone numbers to call or text, 3 e-mails, Google Talk, Facebook, & Twitter...if people can't get ahold any other way besides Skype...that's their problem. So I set up Startup Auditor to disable it on startup because System Panel always showed it as active. So I restart my phone and assume its done, 5 minutes later. Its still running. So I kill it (I don't use task managers unless its for a poorly coded app) 5 mins later, its running...Does anyone else have this problem?

Edit: I'm also noticing a lot of people commenting on the new Facebook app being a problem. I shot this down on the other post saying I didn't have battery problems today, although I didn't have battery problems I haven't opened Facebook all day & have FB notifications OFF and I have the update interval set to NEVER. So there could be an issue with this...it shouldn't be on my active apps list.

So you are just talking apps that make it so your phone won't sleep?

All I know is that ESPN Scorecenter and Sound Manager are always on my active list....even if I don't use them. If I kill them, they always seem to come back too.

I don't know if it's giving my phone sleep problems or if it's just using up memory....or both.

Do u have the ESPN widget? I got rid of the widget and block it from executing automatically on startup. I did have that problem though, I don't think the app has been updated since they released it. I don't have sound manager.

I don't use the Scorecenter widget at all. I rarely even use the program.

I used to use it, but then I got MLB At Bat, so I rarely even open scorecenter. I'm sure I will use it once football season starts.

I just don't understand why it keeps coming up in my active list and won't ever go away after being killed....

Any ideas?

I've noticed that "Maps" is killing my battery. The other day it had drained my battery by 63%, and I hadn't even opened it. ATM says that it keeps popping back to. Same with aCar and Astrid.

I don't know what aCar & Astrid is but I assume its probably massive GPS usage rather than one of these apps. Try to turn GPS off for a day and see if that helps, if it does THEN we look to see what app is abusing GPS.

Skype is a cousin of the background running devil. The mobile Skype app is like breaking up with someone and they don't get the hint. I found it to be ALWAYS running actively in the background. I eventually uninstalled it. I don't even know why I ran & installed it in the first place. I hardly use it on my laptop.

I installed the leaked 2.1 update and I can't uninstall it, its built into the firmware. Wonder if there's someone I can e-mail about this?

Agreed. I uninstalled too. Another automatic startup app. Not cool.

Mabilo Wallpapers

Not sure if it kills battery but it is constantly running when never opened, and runs on start up.

Sketchy - not sure if it's trying to record personal information or what.

Terrible browsing feature anyways. Though the 'babe' section is good.

Uninstalled.

Run, System Panel and monitor if Mobilo Wallpapers is always ACTIVE or if its running in the background. If its active then its definitely hurting your battery.

I have the full version system panel.

Definitely in the ACTIVE. Always comes up in start up.

Checked all of the settings and even unchecked anything that could enable it. Still ran.

So I uninstalled. I'm not going to keep an app that auto starts. Just sketchy.

+1 I forgot about that one. I couldn't understand why a wallpaper app was constantly actively running in the background.... I know there's an option for rotating wallpaper but I didn't use that feature, so I made it go went POOF!

The one app that I found that will drain your battery down in no time is named FlightView. It is a great app for tracking your airplane flights. However it is always polling for flight updates so it never lets your phone sleep. It also does not recognize Airplane Mode so it continues to try to poll even though you have all your receivers turned off.

The app worked great but the battery drain was unacceptable. I sent an email to the author but received no response. I recently went and checked the comments on this app and there are an overwhelming number of other people who have discovered this same problem with the app.

If anyone knows an app that will serve the same purpose as FlightView but will not drain the battery, please let me know.
