Could someone run me through how exactly nandroid works? I think I did a back-up of it last night. I think... So now I can restore to that point, right? Will all my settings be there? If I make another back-up can I choose which one to go to?

I found an app on the market called ROM Manager. Does anyone have any experience using this?

If you boot in recovery mode you'll be able to restore to the point where you made the backup. Yes, all your apps, settings etc. will be there and yes you can easily choose the backup you want to restore.

This can be done with your PC by mounting the phone or via e.g. Astro. In the Nandroid folder on the internal SD you'll find another folder 'mem=109M' and in this folder you'll find your backups (also in folders). Every backup has a code in which you'll find the date. As long as you only keep the specific backup you wish to restore in the mem=109M this one will be restored via recovery.

AFAIK ROM Manger by Koushik Dutta works only with Rooted phone.
have you rooted your phone.

Also it works flawless for Nexus 1 HTCs Motorolas but I cant say about Galaxy

Also what version of Firmware are you using ?

Rooted running galax0 1.1.3.3 or whatever the newest one is.

I installed ROM Manager and my phone stopped booting...after repeated attempts and taking out the battery many times to reset the device it booted on the 4th time.

I immediately uninstalled ROM Manager and did a nandroid backup immediately.

Dont want to go through the process of Rooting again for now.

FYI .. !.6.3.3 has a nandroid backup option in the Recovery menu.. No need to use a third party app .. Maybe it can even affect the Drakaz recovery.

I have it installed and it hasn't caused any problems for me. In fact it has an option called FIX PERMISSIONS and that seems to have stopped alot of the force closing that I had going on. But I guess no one has really used it as true ROM Manager for the Galaxy. I was wondering if I could store Galax0 on there and then use it to flash to GAOSP and go back and forth.

I'm still not sure what triggered the boot-up problems but ROM Manager was the only recent thing that I had installed.
Absolutely let us know if Galaxo ROMS are compatible with ROM Manager.
The only thing which comes to my mind is that to use ROM Manager you have to install its recovery which I think will surely over write Drakaz'z Galaxo Recovery.
I dont know if that will be an issue while upgrading to GAOSP particulary since GAOSP uses recovery 5.1 unlike Galaxo 1.6.3.3 which uses recovery 4.3.
So just be a bit careful and make a Drakaz Recovery Nandroid backup and keep a copy before you take the plunge :)

you could eaven install recovery 5.1 after flashing galaxo, since you will be able to backup galaxo and perform all actions except of installing galaxo with that also, as you will not need to install galaxo anymore since there will be no more update to it. the advantage of this would be that in the latest recovery you have option to choose which nandroid backup to restore...
