Talk to me about Swype people.....

I've seen the youtube clips and read all about the guy who invented it (Same bloke who came up with the T9 dictionary *nods* ) and seen it showcased on the Galaxy S promo video.
Loving the concept but does it actually work? Who's got it on their Desire and has it got any undesireable "real world" quirks?

Cheers

I have it and it really is as good as the videos show it to be! At first I thought it would maybe be a gimmick kinda thing but I figured I'd try getting into the beta anyway and after getting in and installing it, I was blown away :D It's incredibly accurate and fast to use - once you swype, you'll never want to go back to a "normal" style keyboard input.

Swiftkey? Same thing? :D

I have it and love it although I do pop back to a normal keyboard now and again.

I'll try that again shall I..... :D Where did you guys get it from?

As I stated in my post, I signed up for the beta and was one of the lucky folks who got in. Afaik, there is no way of getting it now unless they do another beta or you buy a device that has it pre-installed.

I also looked at the swift key videos and would try that if I could pry myself from Swype for a while ;)

Working great here, using a leaked and slightly out of date beta build but no issues at all on Eclair or Froyo (PinkyDesire). What is the policy on sharing that kind of thing on these forums? Or did I already say too much? :/

If it's a paid app discussing APKs for it isn't allowed. I'm not sure what the policy is for closed betas, but I'd imagine it's the same. Which is a shame as I'd like to try Swype and missed the end date. I wish they'd launch the app!

Personally I think the people at Swype are a bunch of morons. You can only keep an app in Beta for so long, especially when it seems to work perfectly for so many people. Are they allergic to making money or something? Has their software team developed a phobia of the Market? No? Then why the hell haven't you released it yet. It's been in development literally for years. Get on with it!

They don't plan to release on the market. They want to sell it to phone manufacturers to get it preloaded onto handsets. Shame really, I guess they hate end users!

I'm not sure I agree with their business model. They could sell it off their website rather than through the market and advertise or use word of mouth, and still get a tonne of customers. I'm not sure it's worth the effort of persuading phone manufacturers.

I used switftkey for about 2 weeks and thought it was fantastic. But then I switched back to the default HTC one and realised that actually, it was much faster and more convenient, at least for me!

Incidentally, I recommend that everyone tries out the HTC Compact QWERTY keyboard, it's surprisingly good. It's basically what would result if a QWERTY keyboard mated with a T9 dictionary. :p
