Seeing another thread regarding up time versus awake time, I found mine were running the same (they should not be). I uninstalled a dozen apps, powered down the phone, pulled the battery, then fired it back up. Up time versus awake time were now running normally.

I'm going to watch the battery drain today. If it is back to normal (which was good), I will then re-install the apps one or two at a time until I fine the offender.

Update: Whatever I did fixed the battery problem, I'm back to "normal" (what it was before the Froyo update). I have re-installed about half the apps that I had pulled, and so far so good. Still do not know which (single or combination) might have caused the problem.

I did not have to do a factory reset, just un-install a variety of apps and start re-installing them.

New finding: I was taking a nap and all of a sudden it restarted on me. Before I went to sleep uptime was 21 hours and awake time was 3 hours. However, after the restart, my uptime = awake time again. Nothing is running that shouldn't be and I didn't install any new apps other than the ones I described in my previous post; all of which still allowed me to have the uptime to awake time ratio I mentioned above.

Still had about 30% battery after the sound of the restart woke me up.

***I've restarted the phone several times but still get 100% awake time. Battery drains like crazy now.

Spare parts analysis
(partial awake, other usage): Android system running nearly the entire time
(network usage): a program called "0" has been using the network 100% of the time.... absolutely NO idea what that is... when I click it for more details in spare parts, the following notification pops up: The application Settings (process com.android.settings) has stopped unexpectedly. please try again"

Furthermore, after leaving the phone by itself for a few hours... Uptime = awake time and phone idle = cell standby; autocyncing has been turned off.

Something after restarting the phone is causing problems =\

Ok I go to check all the apps that are running and it's an extreme amount. Seems over half of the apps I have ever downloaded are running. I have a startup cleaner that clears about 46 from starting but I guess they pop back up even though I do not tell it to.

Do these apps running affect battery or just memory?

I never wanted to use a task killer. May seem like I have to. My battery life has gotten worse since Froyo.

Well the title says it. I used to have a Motorola Droid on Verizon and I loved that phone. I recently switched carriers to same money and what not. So far i have no complaints with Sprint and love the Evo except the horribly battery life. what sucks all that juice out of the phone??? anyway to get the battery life that I had on the Droid??? Thanks again to all

P.S. I just updated to Froyo OTA 2.2 and was unaware of the different bootloader system that HTC uses compared to the rest of the phones, but my battery life has gone wayyyyyyyyyyyyy down hill sense I upgraded to the OTA.

unfortunately, you cannot compare the batteyr life of two completely different phones. The evo has a more powerful processor, and a much larger and brighter screen. You cant buy a giant SUV and complain that it uses more gas than your compact car.

That being said, there are MANY battery tips threads here, just do a search. IMO, I was getting great battery life before the 2.2 update, like 2 days without charging. Now with 2.2, i cant go 10 hours with light usage. Hopefully they will put out a fix soon.

Unplugged 0730 this morning. Used it for about 1 minute in way to work to check traffic.
Turned it on again forst time again at work at 0945.
Between 0730 and 0900, battery level dropped to 80% at a steady rate, then flattened out at 0900 (half way though my commute). Between then, and 0945, the battery graph was virtually flat (not in use)
So, what would cause a 20% drop in battery level over 1.5 hours, then stop with no other interaction?

Edit: Just noticed I had 4G on. I have no 4G coverage at home, or for most of my commute,
Does the phone still try to establish a 4G connection when it's in standby mode?
and, would attempting to establish a connection use more power than just maintaining one?

Up time is 23:00 Awake time is 7:10

Try turning off auto sync for facebook/twitter/weather/...etc. That should help.

Open up Google talk and disable auto sign in.

This should do the trick. Also, check to see your up time and awake time in battery status are different. If they are the same, then an app is keeping the phone from sleeping. This is bad.

That should do the trick, if not, post your problems still. Also, if you compare the Evo and Droid X, the battery life on both phones are about the same. Bigger screen size and specs are going to drain the battery faster.

Thats not a guaranteed fix, yes it is a good option if all else has failed but dont say it WILL fix the problems. I did a hard reset after my update and i still have horrible battery life and other bugs.

Agreed 100%. A hard reset did fix the problem initially, but I tested the uptime/awake time issue without installing any new apps (stock) and installing new apps and here are my findings for my phone. Autosyncing and backgrouond data off in both situations as well.

The phone was great immediately after the hard reset in both situations. I got about 30 hours of life before I decided to charge it. I still had 15% battery life at this point.

After charging, I restarted the phone (both with new apps and without installing any apps) and the same thing happened.... awake time = up time no matter what. I couldn't trace it to any single app as I added a bunch of them one at a time and checked the uptime/awake ratio. Also, after rebooting the phone without installing any apps, it did the same thing where awake time = uptime.

CDMA trick did not work in either situation, nor did uninstalling the Facebook update.

Silly question but, after the hard reset did you go back and disable gtalk, toggle your radio to GSM and back to CDMA and the other list of fun stuff?

Theres the list of most the fun stuff, also, go under your WiFi setting, and uncheck notify for new locations, or something. (My daughter has my phone lol!) Theres only 2 boxes, 1 to enable WiFi, its the other box! Good luck
