:)Hi, my name is Joy and I am an androidaholic lol I love my phone but there is so much to learn. I have had my incredible for about 6 weeks. I am thrilled to find this forum but am really on overload. I have a couple of things that really bother me so am hoping to find the answers here but when I do a search I am not finding them. This is what I need help with
1. Different sounds with different notifications. I have learned to put my phone in "disk drive" but when I plug it in only the sd card shows up as a disk drive until I manually tell the phone once again to be a drive, I have added folders named "notifications and put mp3 sounds in the folder, but nothing has changed when I try to change notification sounds for any of my apps.

2. When I get a text with a picture attached it is ALWAYS a "slide" not just a picutre, is there a way to change this? When I go to look at it it only stays a few seconds!

That is mostly it for now, I have learned a LOT from this forum and I thank you in advance for any help anyone can be, Joy

Welcome Joy!

The phone will revert to whatever method of connection that is set as default in the phone settings. Charge only is the default. The phone can't see the sdcard when it is connected to a computer as a disk drive so if you want to access what is on the card from the phone, you need to switch back to charge only or disconnect. Just a thought, are you connected to the computer when you are trying to change the notification sounds?

*Edit* just had another thought. Is the folder named notifications or Notifications? Not sure if it makes a difference, but mine is with a capital N and I don't have any problems.

It can get tough to find thnigs again in the forums sometimes (Subscribing to threads can help). Quite a few of the people here are genuinely willing to help. Just let us know how we can help.

Thank you, could you tell me how to subscribe please? The only way I have found my questions is to click on me and then show all posts lol. I am still having trouble with my ringtones, sometimes they are there and the phone rings using them and sometimes it rings a generic tone and when I check it will have the ringtone I have listed but then has a number in parenthesis after it, have no clue what that means, I get confused easily with all of this, but am trying :)

No problem. When you are in a thread you want to subscribe to, there is a bar just above the first post on that page. The left side is green, but on the right it turns blue and has "LinkBack", "Thread Tools", "Search this Thread" and "Rate Thread". Click on "Thread Tools" this will bring down a drop menu that will allow you to subscribe/unsubscribe the thread.

Getting back to this little problem lol. I have the phone default set to disk drive but EVERY time I connect it, only the SD card shows as a drive until I go and pull down the top bar (sorry don't remember what it is called) and choose it again even though it says disk drive and then the phone pops up as a disk drive. Not sure if that means there is something wrong with the phone or what.

I am still having trouble being able to see my sounds that I want, I did before finding this forum download an app called Ringtones and was able to assign some of my old ringtones off my sd card to certain people but not notifications. However, and this may have to do with the app ringtones now that I think about it, sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. And I am not making any changes. I hope to get this figured out eventually, I am not stupid but I don't understand a lot either lol.

I am also wondering what Froyo is, sounds like it could be a good thing but I would like to be sure before I try anything at all anymore lol Thank you ahead of time for any help you can be.

I think the drive behavior is a little odd, but can't be sure since I keep mine defaulted to charge only and only change it when I want to access the sdcard and internal memory.

*EDIT* I just found this in another thread :http://androidforums.com/support-troubleshooting-incredible/101070-sd-card-while-charge-mode.html. Do you have Doubletwist installed?

It's been a while since I've ran a stock phone, but I'm pretty sure that if you put the tones you want in a folder named notifications on the sdcard, they should appear on the list of available ringtones in settings - Sound - Notification sound. Also each app should also have a setting to change it's notification sound and should also look in the notification folder on the sdcard for the additional tones.

I am also wondering what Froyo is, sounds like it could be a good thing but I would like to be sure before I try anything at all anymore lol Thank you ahead of time for any help you can be.

Froyo is the code name for version 2.2 of Android OS . The Incredible oficially is running 2.1-update 1 which is called Eclair. Froyo (or 2.2) offers superior performance over Eclair along with numerous other enhancements. At this time, however, you need to be rooted to be able to run it on your Incredible. You can learn more about the features of Froyo here: Android 2.2 Platform Highlights | Android Developers.
