Accessing the News

Hi,

Just interested in what you all use to check up on the news? Currently I just have the BBC News and BBC Sport apps installed which seems to suit me ie a couple of presses for the latest on World News, UK News, Sport, Technology, Entertainment etc etc.

Are there any better alternatives that you would recommend though such as different apps, widgets, RSS feeds?

Yes I've used this before but don't find it especially easy to scan through when different feeds are all jumbled up together. How do you read the feeds seperately rather then all mixed up?

Also, BBC Sport isn't pre-loaded (bizarrely) but when I add the URL it says it's incorrect. But it isn't! Anybody else had this?

TIA

There's no 'official' BBC news app yet but they are making an Android version now I believe.

HTC news is quite good and you can add or remove RSS feeds as you wish.

I also have the Sky News widget (I like this a lot!), and shortcuts to Phandroid, New Sceintist, Android Police, Engadget, The Onion, and TechRadar.

Thanks! Will check out the Sky news widget but I think I read somewhere it drains the battery a lot?

You can open the widget and tap Menu > Settings and change the update interval between 30 mins to never (manual update). I think it would only use minimal battery when idle.

Thanks again - the widgets look great and very speedy too!

Edit: Even better - Only really need to load the one widget as you can scroll across to Sport or Business News or whatever at the top.

Certainly the nicest looking and fastest news app I've seen so far.

HTC news app. You can stick as many feeds as you like into it, and read them all separately or all mixed up together.

I use the HTC news app thats pre-loaded on the phone but no matter how many subscriptions I add to the widget, only one ever appears to load. If I click the widget and actually go into the app then it shows more.

Is this the way it's supposed to be? Or am I doing something wrong? lol

I've given up with the HTC one as it never seemed to update when it was supposed to and the widget moved too fast for me!

I currently like Buzz Deck and Guardian Anywhere.

I hope the official BBC news app has a decent widget when it comes out. I have an unofficial one at the moment but the widget hardly ever updates.

I currently have a problem with HTC news (since loading Froyo). It updates fine, but when I click into a story (I have BBC feed only) it loads the relevant BBC website, then almost immediately closes and reverts back to the HTC news item. Quite annoying.

Anyone else have this problem and/or have a fix they could share?

Happens to me, but only on the occasional story. Most of them work fine, but one or two randomly shut off for no good reason.

But I have just discovered that later you can go back into the settings and mysteriously the update interval has been reset back to 1 hour. I also do not have the widget on my screen just the app.

LOve the content but its killing my battery
