Led and buttons lights don't work

Hello all!

I have my HTC Hero, I have tried some applicationes from market, all from top 100.

But suddenly, LED get dead, don't work for incoming calls, charge, and notifications, also background lights in buttons and trackball not work.

I have set factory reset twice, and a hard reset, I have change de SD card. No way, led still dead.

All other functios works fine.

Anybody have the same problem? any idea or solution. I have sent a email to HTC I'll wait a response.

Take care.

I have the same problem, in a way glad to see it's not just mine - but very dissappointing to say the least.

I contacted HTC and had the following response;

You recently wrote us about an issue that you have encountered with your Device

I would suggest speaking to the retailer of the device as its possible there could be a problem if the lights arnt lighting up for you.
this could cause other issues if the software is not working 100%

Not the most helpful response, but I shall contact the seller (Expansys) and ask their advice. I would imagine it will have to go back if a Hard Reset is not working as it clearly means there is a serious device failing.

Gutted as I love the phone so far, maybe they rushed the release date and there are still bugs waiting to be found :(

No way.

I have the same response from HTC, I need to conctact with my provider, Orange, cause I live in spain.

Orange told me that they will send me a new HTC Hero, in 15 days aprox. and told me no stock for Hero at this moment, so, only wait is my chance.

I hope the new don't have the same "bug".

Then, if anybody have the same problem, hurry up, contact with your dealer.

I'm afraid this seems to be widespread problem. I've had the HTC Hero for three days now and am pretty much loving it (some touchkey issues but i'm sure I'll get used to it).

Yesterday I noticed the led lights were no longer working - the ones depicting the 5 keys and the toggle - or my battery charge indicator. Am really reluctant to re-boot since i've spent alot of time customising, but may have to because it's annoying me - it's the principle.

HTC has a major glitch here.

I had the same problem occur after 2 weeks with an Orange UK hero. Hard resets had no effect and since it was within the 28 days grace period it was swapped for another handset. This seems to be popping up on various forums - other folk have reported the headphone jack dying as well as the LEDs (I my case it was the LEDs and button lights).

I have exactly the same issue. White HTC on T-Mobile UK. Worked fine for about a week, then....

Headset doesn't work, handset doesn't detect anything plugged in (no icon) and therefore plays music through speakers.

LED by earpiece never lights up anymore, even when USB connected and charging.

Buttons and Trackball are no longer backlit.

I've booked this into HTC to have repaired, a courier's picking it up tomorrow.

I noticed the headphone jack thread this morning after having problems with it on my way to work. I had my headphones on and I could hear a click through them as I plugged it in, but got no icon and the sound played through the speakers. I turned the phone off and on and it worked fine, but maybe I'm lucky, or it's an intermittent fault.

I've also had instances where the green LED has been lit constantly after charging, and only went away after a reset. Also I get no sound from alarms or ringtones, only vibrate works.

I've emailed HTC and my phone provider and am waiting to see what they advise.

I'm having the same problem with my days-old HTC Hero.

At first all the trackball, LED and other notification lights worked fine. But after about one day of having the device (brand new from T-Mobile in Germany), I tried out the headphone socket and discovered the audio wasn't being routed to them.

This thread then alerted me to the non-functioning LED issue, which I discovered had happened too.

After rebooting and factory resetting there's no change.

I tried emailing contactus@htc.com, but that bounced due to some weird permissions error on their end (it seems), so I'm now waiting a reply to my query via their webform.

Anyone else got any updates?

HTC advised me that a factory reset might solve the problem. I haven't tried that as it doesn't seem to have worked for anyone else. The website that provided the phone said they could exchange it, but I'm reluctant to at the moment as I already have lots of apps loaded etc...and it could happen with another phone if it's a software issue. I think I'm going to wait for the September firmware update and if it doesn't solve the issues then I will look at getting it repaired/exchanged.

Same problem here.
I got T-Mobile G2 Touch. Worked good for about a month.

But now headset doesn't work, no icon when headphone plugged in and music plays through speakers. LED doesn't lights up when USB connected or charging, and buttons and trackball are no longer backlit.

Will contact T-mobile for exchange.:mad::mad:

just wanted to let all suffers know the HTC ROM Update at
ROM Upgrade for HTC Hero_2.73.405.5
fixed all these issues for me:
Notification LED stays dark during charging.
Buttons and Trackball lights are dead.
Audio Jack is dead.
I did a backup of my data first using MyBackup.
Not all programs were restored from /sdcard with MyBackup.
Most notably restore of my 1352 contacts crashed in the middle, but I fetched them again via HTC sync which is a lot faster than MyBackup restore from /sdcard.

HTH someone,
Adrian

Once I was on the market and suddenly my phone turned off this was while on the charger with 1/4 battery and it would not turn on so I waited while it was on the charger for about an hour and then it turned on
